Personal History
Darsyn tried to be a normal child growing up, but he lived an abnormal life after his sister, Emmerene, was born. His mother suddenly took them from their home on Earth and, throughout their childhoods, they lived off and on starships, colonies, and star bases. As a teenager, Darsyn developed serious eye problems and was taken to a non-Star Fleet medical facility to treat it. The doctor that performed the corrective surgery took the opportunity to use Darsyn as a lab rat for one of his experiments. The end result did cure his problem, but turned his eyes light red. And with no money to restore them to normal, he was forced to live with red eyes, which, in time, helped to redefine his personality.
Through their childhood and teen years, Darsyn and Emmerene became almost inseparable, and they even worked together writing holo-novels to help support their mother.
Darsyn's mother was a seasoned xenomythologist, respected in her field, and was hardly around for him and Emmerene because of her work, which she continued to do in spite of the fact that she was running from Gesredain Pex, a genetically engineered super soldier who was a wanted criminal by Star Fleet and several other powerful organizations, including the Orion Syndicate for which he once worked as a thief and assassin. Pex continually tried to convince Darsyn to join him and work for the Dragon Cartel with him. But, Darsyn discovered that he was only going to be his patsy, he adamantly refused time and time again, and Pex became enraged to the point that it drove him insane. Pex retaliated by killing everyone Darsyn had ever been close to until he gave in, finally going after and brutally murdering his mother and attempting to murder Emmerene.
That drove Darsyn further toward a career in Star Fleet.
While attending the Academy, Darsyn met a Japanese martial arts instructor, Akira Oto. Oto was so impressed with Darsyn's skills that he invited the man to study with him while Darsyn continued his education. Akira and Darsyn quickly bonded and soon Darsyn became part of Akira's family. Darsyn fell in love with Akira's daughter, Leah, but out of respect for his adopted father, never acted on his feelings, and left soon after graduation.
During his second mission on the Valley Forge to Eltaban 3, Darsyn learned that his father had secretly implanted a bio-chip in his brain that activated his dormant telepathic abilities. It also amplified it to the point that it drove Darsyn completely insane, and he killed an innocent doctor, Taldan Kwen, in the process. Cdr Ysiadina Lanael performed an operation that successfully removed the chip, but also a part of the tissue that controls telepathy. Now he can only sense people's moods, and still send/receive telepathic messages, but it causes him great pain that he is still learning to control.

Short-Term Goals: To rise through the ranks
Long-Term Goals: To have Command of my own ship
Personality: He has no trouble making friends, and is very loyal to them. He likes to socialize, and can do so and work at the same time when not under stress. He works fairly well under pressure, unless provoked, and then tends to mouth off without thinking of the consequences. He has a tendency to be sarcastic and cynical in the most inappropriate times.
Sense of Humor: Sarcastic and Cynical. Uses humor to relieve stress. Even when it’s not appropriate

Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: It was the death of Darsyn’s mother. During a visit to her lab on Mars, he found her being tortured to death by his father, a psychotic but brilliant criminal that made Hannibal Lector look like a boy scout. His father had trapped her in a containment room, and despite Darsyn’s best efforts, he couldn’t get into the room in time. After his father killed her, he beat his younger sister Emmerene into a coma that lasted six years.
Best Time: Graduating Star Fleet Academy. It gave him hope and a reason for living.
Most Crucial Experience: The most crucial experience was his assignment to the Gettysburg. It was where he made the most friends and grew as an officer and as a man. Of course, he got into more trouble than he bargained for, but those experiences taught him valuable lessons, and he was finally able to get his life back without constantly worrying about his father. It was also the time Emmerene woke up from her coma.
Role Model: Darsyn’s role model was his martial arts instructor, Akira. He was like a father to Darsyn, and, since Darsyn wasn’t exactly close to his own father, and Akira was childless, they became family. Akira taught Darsyn more than he ever learned at the Academy.
