Personal History

Akaeldrin Dal-Mar was born on July 25th, 2309 to Kalek Dal-Mar, and Eikris Dal-Mar. Both his parents were historians in the Aurelian Military Historical Society, and their son was steeped in both the military lifestyle of his culture, and that of the Federation when the AMHS was integrated into the Federation Historical Archives. Akaeldrin was raised with the eventual goal in mind, that he would enter the Federation as one of its historians, and follow his family's legacy, but Akaeldrin threw a wrench into those works, when he applied for Starfleet Academy on stardate 16592.649. Akaeldrin's application to the Academy did not go unnoticed by his family, and the stern lecture he received on honoring those before him only spurred him to do something else other than what his family wanted.

Akaeldrin took the entrance exam on Earth, and was the only Aurelian that year to be accepted into the Academy. However, instead of going into the sciences as was natural for Aurelians at the time, Akaeldrin took on the task of becoming a JAG officer, and applied his years of military history and knowledge of law to the task. Four years later, Akaeldrin graduated in the fourth percentile of his class, and in the first percentile of JAG graduates. Akaeldrin was immediately assigned to Star Base 12 as its JAG officer, and for the next ten years, Akaeldrin spent his time adjudicating new cases, and time as both a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. When the Cardassian-Federation war broke out, Akaeldrin was reassigned to a mobile JAG unit, that was shuttled from Star Base to Star Base as temporary JAG officers for special cases.

Eventually, this became cumbersome enough that he was assigned to Star Base Alpha as a judge for courts martial. During the resulting detente between the Cardassians and the Federation, Akaeldrin began to be involved in the interpretation of treaties and other legal operations within the Federation, that didn't involve trying an officer in a case. With the outbreak of the Dominion War, Akaeldrin was assigned to Earth, and during the attack on Earth by the Breen, assisted both in defence efforts and in rescue efforts. Akaeldrin was always a strong flier, and his time in Star Fleet had given him quite a bit of practice. Being one of the few officers that could actually fly, Akaeldrin assisted in search and rescue, and was quite successful at his volunteer role.

After the Dominion War, Akaeldrin had risen to the rank of Captain, although he was still only the captain of a desk. After years of being out of contact with Aurelia, he returned home and spent a few years reconnecting with the family. His new legacy had become accepted by the Dal-Mar family, which was his goal all along. The death of his parents at the end of the first Federation-Romulan war in 2379 convinced him that he needed to raise his own family, and in 2380, Akaeldrin married Keladri Ael-Ka on Aurelia. He continued to split his time between JAG and his family until the First General War, when he made the decision to return to Earth and assist in the war efforts. His wife and newly hatched son also accompanied him on his return, ensuring that he never would be far from his family.

His family life was disrupted in 2402, when the Borg returned, and the Armageddon Directive was established. Akaeldrin, now a commodore, was assigned to a secondary command post, while his family was taken to a more secure location. Akaeldrin within a few months, went from a JAG judge and treaty analyst, to a historical tactician, and with his knowledge of military tactics, he performed admirably in the Borg Invasion. When the Borg were defeated, he was reunited with his family and returned to Earth.

Shortly after the Krynar Invasion, which during that war Akaeldrin had been relegated to Deep Space 7 to discuss treaties with the Democratic Romulan Republic, Akaeldrin's son Kedri Dal-Mar entered Starfleet Academy and took the path of Tactical. Reminded by his own past, Akaeldrin gave his son his blessing, and continued to watch over him as he went through the Academy. When the position of Judge Advocate General was offered to Akaeldrin, he was quite surprised, as the position had only been held by a human up to that point. With such an honor to even be considered, Akaeldrin accepted the job, and became the first Aurelian JAG, as well as the first non-human JAG in the history of the office.
