The Daedalus-class was an early class of Starfleet vessels.

Unlike modern starships, this class was designed with a spherical primary hull.

The Daedalus was first used around the 2140s, and was decommissioned by 2196, since by the mid to late 2150s, it was considered outdated.

However, due to growing tensions and subsequent conflicts with the Romulan Star Empire, the Daedalus made a comeback.

They were upgraded with technology that had been used in the NX Program, and wartime thoughts pressured Starfleet to bulk up their numbers.

The Daedalus-class ships could be built three times faster than any of the newer ships, even with the NX upgrades.

During their comeback, ships of this class were equipped with five phaser banks, two spatial torpedo banks, two photonic torpedo banks, and had polarized hull plating.
