Personal History
Early Life
Tyra was born on Luna Colony where her parents were stationed at the time. Once her parents resumed ship assignments, she split time between her maternal grandparents in Georgia, Earth and brief stints on her father’s vessel. She enjoyed both, although she found more ways to cause trouble on a ship than she could in her grandfather’s workshop. Throughout her childhood, she displayed an excessive amount of energy and curiosity. Those characteristics coupled with stubbornness and mischievousness meant she managed to get herself in trouble often, even while under careful watch. However, she wasn’t malicious, and was generally regarded as a sweet girl.
At the age of 7, her father was promoted and transferred to Starfleet HQ on Earth. While it wasn’t an assignment he enjoyed, it did allow him to be there for his children. Shortly after his return, he took possession of the family house outside of Stillwater, Oklahoma and moved the girls there. The majority of Tyra’s childhood was quite stable and consistent, even once her father returned to space bound assignments. As had been the case before, she was allowed to accompany a parent on occasion, but for the most part, she remained on Earth. Even in their absence, her parents demanded the best from their children, and firmly believed that a diverse education was necessary. Tyra was placed in advance programs, and suffered through art and music education, although she can still play the guitar and piano. Her only real enjoyment came from sports, an area that she really excelled at, although she enjoyed most active and outdoor activities. Starting around age 12, she was also allowed to accompany her aunt on some of her archeological digs.
At the age of 15, her life changed dramatically. During a semi-regular trip to Luna, Tyra and her younger sister, Carly, were brutally attacked on their way home from a late holo-movie, which their father was suppose to accompany them to. Although the incident was officially ruled a mugging, it was a vicious attack and nothing was taken from either girl. Probably the only reason that Tyra survived was that the attack was interrupted by two off-duty security officers. The security officers immediately called for medical assistance, but it was already too late for Carly. After being stabilized, Tyra was transferred to Starfleet Medical on Earth, where she remained for three months, one of which she was unconscious for. She’d received massive injuries including broken ribs and a punctured lung, but it was the massive trauma to her head that caused the doctors to leave her in a coma while her brain attempted to heal itself. There were major concerns about brain damage, but they were fortunately unfounded. Tyra did recover fully, although her memories were slower to recover. Her sister’s death posed a different challenge for the young woman, and instead of slipping into depression like many had assumed, she became quite angry. This was only complicated by her father’s withdrawal because he felt responsible for not accompanying the two that night. The strain that was put on their relationship is something that has only been dealt with in the last few years.
Her anger gradually subsided but it left a defiant and rebellious teenager in its wake. She tried to stay as busy as possible with sports and friends, and would often disappear when possible. As much as her family tried to support her, she just saw them as trying to pity her. She wanted to get away from her family at all costs, and in her eyes, the easiest way to do that was to join Starfleet, even though it was the organization she’d resented for years.
Star Fleet Academy
Because of her advanced studies, she graduated from high school at 16, and immediately applied for Stafleet Academy as an engineering cadet – it was the field she’d excelled at in her studies so far. While the review board was hesitant to accept her due to her age and how recently her trauma had occurred, her test scores and general aptitude balanced the review board in her favor, and she was accepted. However, shortly after being accepted, she changed her course of study to security without giving any sort of reason. It surprised her family, but they were supportive of her, even if they, particularly her mother, weren’t thrilled.
Her years at the Academy were well spent and allowed her to grow up. While she was known to be a challenging student at times, she was well liked by her peers and instructors, developing a fairly out-going personality that contrasted her actions prior to joining the academy. Her only black mark during those years was for an altercation between her and an ex-boyfriend of hers. With a broken nose and cheekbone, he attempted to press charges but was persuaded otherwise – it wouldn’t have looked good on him. Regardless of this stumble, she graduated in the top 5 of her class with honors as the top marksmen to graduate that semester at the age of 20. She was subsequently assigned to the USS Gettysburg as a security officer.
USS Gettysburg, BC-1863
After only a few months, she was promoted to Ensign for exemplary leadership abilities and excellent training performances. Her first mission with the USS Gettysburg required security to provide support and defense for personnel on Ecauri after a number of kidnappings had been committed. It was a trying mission at times, but she also became close to two of her fellow security officers, Mihar Kata and Joe Abila, during it. At the end of the mission, she was promoted to Lt [JG], much to her surprise.
At the beginning on the next mission, she was once again surprised as she was offered the position of Chief Tactical Officer by Commander Rexar Idrani, the Gettysburg’s new FO. She was hesitant to accept the position at first because it was so far out of her own comfort zone, but her desire for a challenge won. After receiving refresher courses from Idrani personally, she felt that she was ready for her new position.
However, she never really got the chance to act in her full capacity as CTO because the Getty docked at Starbase Charlie at the same time that a serial killer was on a rampage. Due to her background as a security officer, she was selected to lead one of the manhunt teams. Until recently, the carnage she saw on that mission was the worst she had ever witnessed. During that mission, she made a decision that directly allowed the serial killer to continue his rampage, and it took her some time to get over the guilt caused by that decision. Her recovery was at first aided by a blossoming relationship with her then FO, Idrani, and then, damaged by his subsequent abandonment of her only a few months later.
Before the next mission, the transfer of her mentor, LCdr Dayune, allowed her to take the position of COS on the Getty, which started her on the path to where she is now. Her career as a COS has been a mixed basket of failures and triumphs that has spanned three different vessels and countless missions. Some of her greatest moments have occurred because of her career choices, like successfully negotiating the safe return of her away team after they had been trapped on the surface of a planet in the process of being bombed and dealing with the Satarran threat to the Getty. However, her career choice has offered her a long line of failures and scars, ranging from losing a CO at Outpost 10 to more recently, losing almost an entire department on Carraya IV. It’s not a career she’s come to regret.
Her time as the Chief of Security for the USS Gettysburg provided her with more experience than some officers received in their career. During her first First Contact mission, she was forced to deal with a hostage situation involving herself and the way team at the hands of terrorists. To make matter worse, the planet they were on was being firebombed, but the team was able to stall the would-be hostage-takers and were eventually beamed back to the Getty. Shortly thereafter, came the disaster at Outpost 10, a mission that originally was just to involve moving the outpost. Instead, it turned into an attempt to protect the outpost from a Romulan attack, which seemingly killed the Getty’s CO, Captain Torgh, and her CE. In reality, it turned out that Torgh had been replaced by a Satarran operative, and when this was discovered, after an attempt was made on the Acting-CO, Commander Grant, it triggered a hunt for further operatives. Security was successful in hunting down and either capturing or neutralizing the threat with help from engineering.
Her last mission as COS of the Getty was by far one of the more memorable, and not for good reasons. The Battle at Starbase 157 is fairly infamous – a lot of damage was done, and seemingly undone there. Tyra has distinct memories of the battle occurring a specific way before seemingly resetting. She remembers the ship being taken over by Romulan special forces, and she also remembers being blown to bits in a corridor during the defensive before winding up back in her office in one piece. Apparently, it was something experienced by most people present, and it gave her something to think about after they’d won the battle. While 157 didn’t affect her too adversely, she did watch it rip apart members of her department, including Midshipman Loken Abaddon. He was a very promising young man before snapping, which lead him to almost mauling a prisoner to death and then assaulting his DH. She handed him off to Grant to deal with because she couldn’t make herself deal with him.
USS Drake, CL- 2509
After Starbase 157, it came as quite a surprise when she was informed of her impending transfer to the Drake. She’d met Alanna prior to the battle, but hadn’t felt that the encounter warranted a selection as her First Officer. It was a difficult transition as she’d never served anywhere other than the Getty and was quite attached to her crewmates and department. However, she did make attempts to adapt to her new ship and position.
Her first mission with the Drake was a disaster after she and Alanna were abducted by an insectoid race that was curious to learn about their race. The problem was they felt they needed to dissect them to discover information on them. While Tyra came away from the mission unharmed, Alanna wasn’t so lucky – it was something Tyra felt immensely guilty over. However, neither allowed the mission to effect their performances.
Earth Assignments
Part way through the next mission, she was transferred off the Drake, before she could fully adapt to her position. She found herself on Earth, assigned as an expert on Romulan Tactics for Security’s Strategy Development department. Being on the sidelines annoyed her greatly but between taking on additional responsibilities, such as teaching an Academy class, becoming the supervisor for Sector 001’s SAR team assigned to Earth and SBA, and also taking on a parental role at home kept her busy.
She actually enjoyed the SAR team more than she’d anticipated. It allowed her to recruit and form her own team, much like she would a department, and it let her expand her skill set. Admittedly, she spent more time on Andoria than she’d have preferred, but it was a good experience. She probably would have been content to remain on Earth for a while longer, where she had a chance at a normal, stable life, had Admiral Derrick Grant, her former CO on the Getty, not requested her for the COS position on his new vessel, the USS Nova. It was a difficult decision to make but she still felt that her experience would be put to better use in that position.
USS Nova, BB-106
Before her first mission on the Nova, the Nova made a stop at Carraya IV, where a large conference was being held to discuss a major issue involving the Romulans. While she was very busy providing a security detail for Grant, she did find some free time to explore the local area, during which she met Thomas Grayson.. Despite the wide disparity in age and rank, she felt an immediate connection to him, and greatly enjoyed their time together on Carraya. As luck would have it, shortly after leaving Carraya, Thomas arrived on the Nova to replace Grant as CO, and they began a serious relationship. She couldn’t be happier.
Her first mission on the Nova was a disaster. What was supposed to be a diplomatic mission to contact the Gondwanans really put them in the middle of a social civil war between the Monarchy and a group of outcasts with some sort of mutation. During the diplomatic talks, Tyra served as the head of security detail for the diplomatic team, including Admiral Grayson and a number of other senior officers in the flotilla. It was the only reason she wasn’t on the Nova went it was disabled by a rebel attack, forcing its evacuation to other ships.
USS Pegasus, CL-2500
She never returned to the Nova because Ristone was given the CO position on the Pegasus, and requested she move there as COS. After conferring with Thomas and realizing that the COS position on the Nova would become more administrative, she agreed to the move.
Battle for Carraya
During the second mission after her departure from Earth – her first full mission on the Pegasus--, she encountered the worst situation she has ever been thrown into. The flotilla was sent to respond to a situation developing on Carraya IV, involving Klingons. It seemed like Carraya was undergoing a coupe, which was complicated by Klingon forces in the area.
Their involvement began with the Pegasus being attacked by Klingons. While her teams were able to easily subdue the standard Klingons, there were Klingon mutants that attacked the bridge and wrecked havoc there. Security didn’t fair well on the bridge, but by the time she arrived, the situation had been dealt with and wounded taken to Sickbay. She understands that her presence wouldn’t have changed anything, but her inability to end the situation sooner annoyed her.
Shortly after, she was ordered to take the drive section – the Pegasus had separated during the battle –and deliver her teams to Carraya IV to help stabilize the government palace there. Unapparent to them, they would be walking into a situation that was not what it appeared to be. Upon breaching the palace, the security team split into three sections. Tyra’s section encountered the palace’s chief of security, Jax, who claimed he had placed the acting government head in a bunker, which one of her teams was about to breach. After details of his story was confirmed, Tyra and her teams were ordered to ensure the safety of Jaroxx, the acting First Citizen. To do so, they followed Jax into the kitchen area, where the bunker’s entrance was, and walked directly into an ambush.
In the end, her teams and she were brutally ambushed in the kitchen, where they’d been taken to meet the supposed rebellion leader. Jaroxx claimed that the Starfleet team opened fire on his people, but it was quite the opposite.
Only 7 of the original entry team, which had been over 30, survived the ambush and made it out of the palace in one piece and they were forced to fight their way out. Almost all of the 7 sustained serious injuries. It was probably a miracle that any of them made it out alive, much less were able to be beamed up to the Nova before they were over taken by Carrayan military forces.
The aftermath of Carraya was quite far reaching. The physical wounds, while severe, were easily mended with some time, but the psychological wounds were longer lasting. Tyra felt immense guilt over having survived and having lost so many people. Instead of being angry like she should have been, she blamed herself.
Instead of returning to Delta as was planned, she and Thomas took an unexpected and unplanned trip to Earth. It went extremely well with her family, and much to her surprise, Thomas proposed to her while there. The only problem was that their trip had caused some trouble for Thomas with the CinC, which made Tyra feel guilty, but it was taken care of before they returned to Delta. Regardless, even with the positive changes in her personal life, she struggled with the aftermath of the Carraya for a long time.
Dalmatia Mission
The next mission on the Pegasus wasn’t exceedingly better than the previous one. They were tasked with exploring the Dalmatia system along with a task force of vessels. The Pegasus was assigned to the planet Weyden, and when they arrived, they were unable to contact the natives, which forced them to send down an away team, including Tyra. Due to numerous factors, the team did not have a successful first contact with the natives , the Snainoci,– they returned to the ship twice without finishing any sort of diplomatic talks.
However, while they were on the planet, they had been infected with a microorganism that affected their perceptions of reality without their awareness.
It led to the majority of the away team attempting to and succeeding in mutinying against Commander Cooper, who they felt was spineless and incapable of leading them. During the early stages of the mutiny, DeWitt was locked up in the brig and Cooper was detained in the Ready Room, both of which Tyra personally dealt with and explained to her department. During the later stages of the mutiny, both detainees were able to escape and mount a counter assault of the bridge.
And while the mutiny occurred without any casualties, the take back was not so smooth. Beyond giving Kyle DeWitt a nicely broken nose and a few bruises, Tyra wasn’t involved in the worst aspect of the mutiny, which was the death of Commander Cooper. That honor rests with Azernal and Edwards. Once Cooper, Azernal and Edwards were removed from the bridge, and the antidote developed by Schwicker had taken affect, Tyra took control of the bridge until Commodore Dramar appeared and relieved the away team of duty until further notice. The six day journey to Starbase Delta was spent mostly confined to quarters, which left Tyra with far too much time to think. It was difficult for her to accept that they’d been controlled by the natives of Weyden, or to come to terms with how Starfleet might react to the situation.
Chin’toka Hijacking
While the mutiny still weighed heavily on Tyra, Starfleet had cleared the crew of any wrong doing and had allowed them to resume their normal activities, which included attending the Chin’toka’s launch ceremony. It was suppose to be a routine formal gathering with the normal amount of brass, but it quickly evolved into a major FUBAR.
During an surprise battle drill, the Chin’toka, along with numerous members of the command staff, was taken by a group of terrorists, which lead ships from the 4th fleet, including the Pegasus, Philly, Yeager and James Madison, on a wild goose chase. In theory, the Chin’toka should have had the advantage and have gotten away, but in a puzzling move, the ship doubled back, passing the pursuit ships, and seemed to move into a collision course with Delta.
For most of the crisis, Tyra found herself stuck on the bridge as the Pegasus’ acting FO, which annoyed her on some level. However, prior to arriving on the bridge, she was able to prepare boarding teams in case they got close enough to the Chin’toka to attempt a boarding action. When Azernal ordered that the Pegasus ram the Chin’toka to prevent the ship from colliding with Delta, she was able to convince the acting CO to allow security to beam over the to the other ship, three teams to engineering, the bridge, and to attempt to cut off the hijackers’ escape route. Tyra went with the latter group and within moments of arriving, the ship separated into two parts and went in different directions.
During most of the pursuit, Tyra was under the impression that while the commanding officers of the pursuit ships were being held on the Chin’toka, Thomas had managed to return to Delta unharmed -- this was based on a conversation she thought she had had with the real Grayson. However, within minutes of arriving on the Chin’toka to cut off the hijackers, she became aware that Thomas was actually with the escaping hijackers.
Unfortunately, her team was unable to prevent their escape, and injuring one of the hijackers was little solace for the failure. They did, however, find the Fleet Commander’s Chief of Staff, who had apparently been the inside man, dying in the turbolift. At the time, his dying words were of little help, though, but Tyra did take a little satisfaction in him reaching a fitting end.
On a whole though, Tyra took the whole situation hard, and returned to the bridge to check on their pursuit abilities. However, because they were just beginning to regain control of the separated saucer, they were unable to pursue further, which did nothing to improve the situation. Their pursuit wouldn’t have made a difference as, to prevent the ships’ further pursuit of the escaping yacht, the hijackers jettisoned Thomas into space without a suit. The ship most capable of pursuit, the Pegasus, was also the only ship in a position to rescue the FC in a timely manner, and they chose to do so, allowing the yacht to escape.
Tyra was infuriated with the hijacker’s actions and in a rare outburst, she broke her hand on the Chin’toka’s bulkhead. Unfortunately, she had to wait 10 minutes before they reached Delta and she was able to receive any word on her fiance’s condition. She spent most of that night waiting for word of how his surgery went. During that time, she had the company of the Chin’toka’s CTO, Crissy Fiore, who had been present with her on the Chin’toka’s bridge, but it wasn’t a very effective distraction. To add to the rather miserable mood, she received a summon to a meeting with Commdore Draev, who would become the acting fleet commander.
The meeting with Draev had a rather unexpected outcome. He wanted her to take out the USS James Madison to examine the Chin’toka’s yacht, which had been abandoned lightyears from Delta. It was a very difficult decision but after speaking to the doctors and having a brief and slightly lucid conversation with Thomas, she decided to take the opportunity. It was an important enough mission that it needed to be done correctly and she didn’t trust anyone else to do it.
Temporary Command of the USS James Madison, ES-17877
While Tyra was in no way comfortable with being in command of a ship, especially a ship as small as the Madison, she was determined enough to make it work. She requested and was granted permission to bring along Crissy Fiore as her FO. For the most part, the transition went well and Tyra had no difficulties with the crew.
Whether or not the crew understood why the mission was so important to her, they prepared for and handled the mission professionally. When they reached the yacht, they were faced with a heavily booby trapped shell of a ship. After the marines and COB were able to rid the ship of all known booby traps, Tyra and Lieutenant Aldren boarded the ship. The forensic aspect of the mission was a definite success with their ability to verify the main hijacker’s identity as Paul Vice and identify at least one other hijacker. They also found traces of Vice Admiral Grayson on the bridge.
However, because they were so focused on the forensic mission and its success, they let their guard down. Unintentionally, the marines in engineering triggered a booby trap that unleashed a supervirus, the Cardassian virus, and while Tyra managed to escape uninfected, Aldren was not as fortunated. To add to the mess, within moments of the virus’ release, a ship appeared through a spacial anomaly that had been present in the area. It was a battle cruiser with the designation USS Avenger, NCC-1500, which had never existed with that designator and a ship with that name hadn’t existed in 10 years. Upon hailing the USS Avenger, Tyra was shocked to find that the commanding officer of the USS Avenger was, or, at least, looked like Derrick Grant, her former CO from the Getty and Nova. Given that last time she knew he was a dead war criminal, she was immediately suspicious, which was an attitude he seemed to share. It was only after a joint effort to defeat an attacking group of Inquisition shards that they were able to put aside suspicion and agree to meet on the Avenger.
It turned out that the Avenger was from a similar but different universe, where the Inquisition still existed but had inflicted significantly more damage to the Federation. They referred to them as the Krynar. After conferring with command at Delta, it was agreed to take the Avenger back to Delta, where decisions would be made as to what to do with them until they could be sent back.
Tyra was happy to return to Delta, where she was reunited with a mostly healed Thomas. Shortly after her arrival, she returned to Earth with Thomas for a business trip. She spent the shoreleave with her family before being notified by Starfleet that she could either accept the position as First Officer of the newly accepted USS Avenger or be given a frontline combat position. It appeared that Grant had selected her to replace his deceased first officer, and while Tyra had no interest in command and Thomas wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about the position, she accepted it as the best option.
USS Avenger, NCC-1500
Tyra’s first mission as the Avenger’s First Officer was a discrete, communication silence mission into the Gamma Quadrant. Because of the Avenger’s Jem’Hadar and Vorta, the ship was the best to attempt to negotiate with the Dominion for Ketracel White and possibly their help against the Krynar. Grant gave Tyra that task of taking the James Madison on a covert mission to acquire the Ketracel White from a refining facility, if negotiations with the Dominion broke down.
Negotiations with the Dominion did not go well because that particular group of Dominion had fallen under the control of the Krynar and their manipulative abilities. However, the James Madison’s acquisition mission was triggered prematurely by the Krynar removing the Avenger’s probe, which had served as a signal to the escort about whether to proceed or not.
On the James Madison though, they were forced to deal with multiple complications to their mission profile. They began to suffer from malfunctions, originating from the replicator system, that killed two crewmembers in shower accidents. In addition, any attempt to replicate by female crewmembers resulted in an acidic compound appearing. To make matters worse, they also suffered through an outbreak of the deadly virus that had infested the fleet. The virus essentially made people dead while still alive and completely willing to attack other people, which was how the virus spread. They lost almost half of their crew to it, and Tyra spent nearly thirty minutes unconscious after suffering an allergic reaction to the preventative treatment for the virus.
When Tyra woke up, there had been an encounter with a Ferengi salvage company, which had laid claim to the Dominion refining facility. The marines and security team that had entered the facility had confirmed that it seemed someone was moving everything out. During the operation, the Ferengi attacked the asteroid facility, killing one of the marines -- they also lost 3 of the 4 Jem’Hadar they had brought for the operation -- but Shelmer, who was acting CO while she was incapacitated, was able to recover the team before fleeing both the Ferengi and the Krynar that had been patrolling the area. However, the Madison was forced to run as quickly as possible back towards the wormhole and their rendezvous point with the Avenger. On the bright side, they were able to acquire the needed supplies and technology to begin making Ketracel White, though their complement of Jem’Hadar had been significantly reduced by their operational losses.
Wedding Bells
Following the Avenger’s difficult mission to the Gamma Quadrant, the Avenger’s crew returned to Starbase Delta for a much deserved shore leave. While this shore leave was expected to be standard for Tyra, it ended up including one of the most important events of her life to date. Although they had originally planned on waiting until the war had ended, impatience got the better of Tyra and with a little push, she and Thomas got married in a beautiful ceremony on Delta. Thanks to Peter O’Malley, they were even able to have a honeymoon without drastically impacting everything.
Due to the sudden decision to get married, most of her family was unable to attend. While none of them were pleased by this, they were placated by the promise of a second, less rushed wedding on Earth once the war ended.
The Case of Bad Piloting on Halless I
Following a short honeymoon, Tyra returned to Delta in time for the Avenger’s next mission. The Avenger was assigned to a basic patrol along the Tholian border, an attempt to blend the two crews into one united front. During a pass near the Halless system, the Avenger picked up the distress signal of a probe that was orbiting Halless I. Captain Grant decided that this would be a good bonding mission for the senior members of the crew, as well as his daughter Katie, and ordered the James Madison to launch to retrieve the probe.
On the surface, it seemed like a rather boring outing for anyone who was not attached to science or engineering. However, during the attempt to retrieve the probe, the Madison lost all power and plummeted to the surface. Thanks to Jenny Braggins, they were able to successfully crash land but not without taking extensive losses and damages. With the exception of engineering, which had a midshipman as its senior most officer, all departments had a surviving department head.
Shortly after managing to get all surviving members of the crew off the James Madison, Tyra was snatched by a flying dinosaur-like creature. She awoke hours later to find herself in its nest high off the ground, and she was forced to free climb to the ground once more. She attempted to head towards a stream she had seen from the nest, and after locating it and drinking from it, stumbled across a farm. She most likely would have been killed by a native, if she hadn’t inadvertently stumbled into her crew again. Jack Ristone assisted her with dealing with the native and hiding him from his friends.
Unfortunately, the natives were alerted to their presence so while Tyra and Rurik Feng attempted to hold off the oncoming threats, Jake Schwartz, the engineering midshipman, attempted to contact the Avenger. He succeeded right as the group became surrounded and they were able to escape by transporter before being entirely overrun. In the aftermath, Tyra was not exactly proud of having to nearly massacre an alien village but her crew’s safety has always been her first priority.
Upon return to the Avenger, Doctor Ristone insisted on examining Tyra for any injuries and discovered that the planet’s water source had not only healed all of her injuries but had rejuvenated her physically. According to scans, her physical age was five years younger than it should have been, an effect that has remained even as time has passed.
Battle for Tellar
Following the Halles I debacle, the Avenger was ordered to report to Rigel in order to remove the Avenger from service for a refit, which would include a transfer for all members of the crew. Under these orders, Crawford would have been transferred to the USS Nova, her husband’s flagship. However, Grant did not take the orders well, accusing Tyra of blindsiding him when she was not aware of the orders herself, and despite protests from his first officer, decided to delay the Avenger’s arrival at Rigel by taking the time to repair the Avenger.
While the Avenger was delayed for repairs, the Krynar appeared in Sector 001 and while they retreated before causing any damage, this demanded a reaction from the Fleet. Because of this, the Avenger’s previous orders were rescinded and she was ordered to rally with the rest of the troops. During the Avenger’s travel to the rally point, Admiral Grayson decided to reassign Grant to the USS Nova as a tactical specialist on the Krynar. In addition, he moved Tyra to the position of Acting Commanding Officer of the Avenger and gave her a field promotion to Captain. While Tyra has had a very decorated career, she couldn’t help but feel that others viewed this as favoritism on the part of her husband, and unfortunately, she was not incorrect.
Upon arriving at the rally point, the Avenger was assigned to assist in attempting to liberate Tellar from the Krynar. Due to the quick thinking of the crew, the Avenger survived the battle and saw it to its successful completion but was forced to endure an attempt at Enlightenment. It left numerous individuals dead at the hand’s of their peers and much psychological damage. It did restore Tyra’s trust in Azernal, who had once been a close friend, because he was not susceptible to the Enlightening and was able to guide her through it.
Krynar Finale -- It’s the End of the World as We Know It
Following the battle at Tellar, the Avenger and the rest of the attack force was directed to Alpha in preparation for the next step in the fight against the Krynar. It allowed the crew some much needed R&R and due to Grayson’s recent reassignment to Earth, Tyra was able to have some much needed family time with him.
However, that was short lived as the Avenger was recalled for what many hoped would be the final fight against the Krynar. During preparations for this battle, Tyra was assigned a permanent FO despite not being assigned as the Avenger’s permanent CO. This was confusing to her, though she assumed it was a way for her husband to get her off the Avenger when Grant was inevitably given his ship back after the Krynar were dealt with. The plan to cripple the Krynar was described to the COs as necessary, and it was advertised as being Thomas’ plan, which made Tyra less skeptical of it. However, everything was not as it seemed nor did it go as everyone had hoped.
During the battle, the Avenger was fired upon by the USS Ticonderoga after the Ticonderoga’s CO became influenced by what was assumed to be the Krynar. The graser weapon destroyed one of the Avenger’s nacelle, but despite a strong desire, she did not open fire immediately. The Ticonderoga’s CTO, LCdr Simmons, established contact before Tyra could follow through with her threat to retaliate, but their lack of an apology was grating at best. Fortunately, Gabe Archer, an old friend from the Gettysburg, stepped in as the taskforce leader.
After the chaos was settled, the taskforce enacted the plan to fire the Graser at particularly parts of the Krymar home system. Whether intended or not, it had the effect of essentially destroying the entire system, and killing the entire Krynar race, or those present.
This act of genocide was difficult for Tyra to stomach, especially given her role and that of her husband’s. However, upon her return to Delta -- where Thomas had returned as Fleet Commander --, she learned that the plan enacted by the battle group and Vice Admiral Bay was not the plan her husband had submitted for approval. It was difficult to stomach that he was being blamed for the essential genocide of an entire race and even harder to watch him be shunned by his peers. It was a difficult time, though being promoted permanently to Captain and Commanding Officer of the Avenger upon her return to Delta was a very small comfort.
The Art of Dying
Following the Krynar’s defeat, the Avenger was assigned a rather boring patrol mission, or so it seemed to be. In the days following the ship’s return, Sienna Tam had been reassigned to the 2nd Fleet, much to Tyra’s displeasure. However, she was assigned a new FO, Sophia Rush, who seemed to be a very well suited match. It was very important that Rush be a good match as shortly after launch, Tyra began to suspect that she could possibly be pregnant, though she didn’t want to confirm the suspicions until she was back with Thomas on Delta.
Unfortunately, only days after leaving Delta, an attempt was made to assassinate Tyra while she was in her ready room. Her replicator was tampered with, and instead of replicating her beverage of choice, a bomb was replicated, which destroyed her ready room and nearly killed her. The damage to her body from the explosion was so bad that her heart stopped beating, and only because of the efforts of Ristone and Ohmsford, was she revived. Her injuries were so extensive that a passing frigate was requested as a medical transport for her and Doctor Ristone back to Delta. This resulted in the USS Lewis taking possession of the injured captain and her doctor while the Lewis’ FO, Cassidy Montgomery became acting CO after Commander Rush seemed to freeze entirely.
While the Avenger’s crew suffered a traumatizing mission, Tyra was fighting for her life. After numerous extensive surgeries and repairs, she was able to regain consciousness, though her memories were very fragmented. Thomas was able to help with that to some extent, but it also had the side effect of forcing her to remember what happened in the ready room and that she had thought she was pregnant. That revelation was incredibly painful for both Tyra and Thomas, as they both had wanted a family for some time but had been hesitant to take the step.
At the moment, Tyra is still trying to heal herself both mentally and physically and it is becoming a long process.

Personality: Tyra is a warm and friendly individual with a good sense of humor. She is loyal to a fault, but takes a stand on what she believes. She’s smart and quick on her feet, although she sometimes reacts or speaks before she thinks. She can be quite stubborn and rebellious but these are traits that have seemed to mellow as she gets older. However, the older she gets, the more mischievous she seems to become.

Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: Tyra has experience numerous painful experiences, and up until recently has always considered her sister’s death to be the worst. However, the ambush and subsequent massacre of officers under her command on Carraya has taken the spot instead.
Best Time: Tyra has lived a very good life but the best times have been since meeting Thomas.
Most Crucial Experience: The period after the attack which killed Carly is the most crucial experience in her life. The subsequent abandonment by her father and a sudden need for independence shaped how Tyra developed into a rebellious, angry, and headstrong young woman.
Role Model: Tyra had two very important role models growing up. Tara Law, a friend of the family, was instrumental in supporting her through her worst moments. Jonathan Gibson, another friend of the family and her godfather, was always there for her, and taught her much of what she knows. She considers him to be a mentor, though sometimes he's more likely a 'how not to' guide to life.
