Personal History

Early Life

Jaxx was the second born son of Alfred and Sophia Crandell, Alfred ran a civilian freight service with Sophia. However Sophia's role in company phased out, when she had two boys to contend with and devoted her time to them.

From a young age the Crandell siblings would be in space, with their Father who would share his ideals with them. Alfred was a firm but fair man, who's only wish in life was to see his boys take over one day, as leaders of Crandell Trans-Global. Crandell Trans-Global had been in the family since the early 2250's, making it big in the early 2300's with Tyson Crandell. Tyson was the Father of Alfred and a skilled negotiator, rarely did he fail to get the contracts he wanted.

Growing up was loving and well supported for the Crandell boys, both did well with private schooling and Jaxx showed a keen interest in reading, learning about famous explorers and history in general. Liam on the other hand did as his Father wanted and worked towards business studies.

Between schooling and being carted off into space by his Father, Jaxx would fairly often spend time with his Grandfather, Tyson owned a cabin at Lake Tahoe in California and learned the boy how to fish. Though Liam and Jaxx were taken fishing with their Father, Jaxx found his time with Tyson that much more enjoyable and memorable. They would often sit and talk while waiting for a bite and the elder Crandell would part some wisdom on his Grandson.

The day inevitably came when Jaxx stated he did not want to join the family business, instead he wanted to go try something outside the company. That decision met with disapproval from his Father, which was completely expected, though Alfred would still support Jaxx financially. It was Crandell Senior's belief, that it was a phase his son was going through. Following graduation from High school and college, Jaxx did what many youngsters did, he partied and enjoyed himself. His partying was in contrast to the healthy eating and keep fit regime Jaxx had adopted. If he drank too much one night, then his solution was to workout harder the following day.

At the age of 20 and who knows how many parties later, Jaxx signed up for Starfleet Academy. It was at that time, that Alfred's benevolence ended and Jaxx was cut off from any financial support.

Star Fleet Academy

Jaxx studied Navigation and Tactical operations, to which he felt he had a natural aptitude for. As additional training he took on security procedures and protocols. But nothing could break through that strong desire to fly, there was no doubt that he was quite good at it. But at times during his academic tenure, his confidence outstripped his abilities.

With the cocky nature Jaxx had, he found that some his of fellow Cadets distanced themselves from him socially. Due to his professional attitude and actions stemming from his cockiness, he was pulled into an office more than once; nothing made it onto his record, however, and for all intents and purposes he got away with it. Whether the reason for that was his silver tongue, or an outside influence was open to debate.

Another thing he learned at the Academy, was the effects of coffee and developed something of an addiction to the beverage. It certainly helped for cramming in revision before exams. Which also earned him a few points with his fellow Cadets, one of the few ways he was able to in fact.

He did find himself feeling lonely at the Academy, he missed his family who were forbidden to talk to him. However on graduation day, his Mother sneaked to the passing out ceremony and secretly reunited with her son.

Post Graduation

Jaxx had aspirations of joining the Special Operations fleet, which he was successful in gaining acceptance. However just prior to taking duty his orders suddenly changed and he was reassigned without explanation. That of course angered Crandell and he could smell his Father’s underhanded dealings. There was a confrontation with Alfred, who of course denied all knowledge of influencing his son’s career. At which point Jaxx told his Dad that he didn’t want him in his life anymore, words that he would regret deeply later.

The USS Gettysburg

Jaxx found his new assignment to be as a Junior Tactical Officer on the Gettysburg, which was a disaster in the beginning. A practical joke from the Chief Tactical Officer was mishandled by Jaxx, who thought sticking up a middle finger at her was the best response. Though it too was meant to be a joke. From there it was quite obvious that Jennifer Braggins and Crandell would clash.

His first assignment was to New Kanto, where he was assigned to diplomatic duties that did not sit well with him. To say he was out of his depth was an understatement and he suspected Braggin’s put him there to fail. The situation got worse by the moment, the leader of the delegation was unpleasable and seemed to be irritated whenever Jaxx tried to do right by him. This led to a lot of misunderstanding and a foul up when the Ensign panicked and left his assignment to consult the C.O of the ship about a suspicion.

It got so bad that Jaxx felt he was not cut out for a life in Star Fleet and as such tendered his resignation. However he was able to cool down and think somewhat about his life choices and subsequently withdrew his resignation. Of course he was spoken to and told to buck his idea’s up, which he promised to do.

Following the New Kanto mission, Jaxx received the news of his Father’s death. Though young Crandell had convinced himself he hated his Father, the death caused more grief than he imagined and discovered some things that shattered the illusion of his Dad. One was that he had not been cut off completely and the financial funding had not simply gone, his Father had opened an account in his son’s name and put the money there instead. Following his Father’s passing Jaxx acquired an old log cabin, that had once belonged to his Grandfather. It had stood unused for many years and had fallen into a state of disrepair, which Crandell decided to take up as a project to put his energy into. Around the same time a chance encounter with Luna Pond changed his perception of things, she accompanied him on his first journey to the cabin.

2nd Mission on the Gettysburg.

Just prior to his second mission on the Gettysburg, Jaxx met the most beautiful woman ever, her name was Aurora and again his life was changed for the better. Although he’d had relations with Dr Leah Wickley during the same leave, Aurora had left something of a lasting impact on him. But what really hammered home the reality, or at least pushed it him in the right direction, was a right hook and a knee to a certain part of his anatomy. That was from Aurora, when she caught Jaxx flirting with Leah in sickbay.

At around the same time Jaxx was transferred to Support, in a way to help him shape up and be more effective as a Star Fleet officer. He served very ably in logistics for over a month, the move gave him something of a free roam of the ship, which meant he could sneak in visits to see Aurora.

During that time Aurora asked Jaxx to make a promise and to attempt to fit in, while at the same time try and get along with Commander Braggins, especially following her promotion to First Officer. Crandell made the promise and did stick to it.

Jaxx ended up on the bridge of the Getty during the mission, he was initially asked to clean up the helm, following it being vomited on. After which he was given his chance to man the position, which he did and loved every moment of it. That was until an order was given, that would see a shuttle full of sick people blown to atoms, it did not sit well with him in the least, he had the strong belief that it was the wrong call to make. He raised the objection and asked for it to be noted, though he was not certain as to whether it was or not.

Feeling extreme frustration with the situation, Crandell was certain that he could no longer serve on the Gettysburg. He believed that he would never be taken seriously and that anything he did would be purposely met with disapproval. So with that he applied for a transfer as soon as the Gettysburg docked, which coincided with the ship being put into mothball.

USS Sheridan

Jaxx didn’t anticipate the transfer being so quick, he received orders to report to the USS Sheridan, a Sun-Tzu class destroyer, as one of its tactical officers. His then fiance, Aurora, moved with him and at the same time changed career paths to medicine.

Soon after arriving on the ship, Crandell found himself promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and put in charge of the Tactical department. His life began anew...
