David Ryan Cooper, who goes by Ryan or simply Coop, was born on Starbase Alpha where his father severed as a security officer. When Ryan was ten years old his father took a job in Star Fleet Security on Earth and the family moved to San Francisco.
Ryan’s adolescence was a rather normal one. He attended school, received good grades, and managed to stay out of serious trouble. Ryan always loved the outdoors and spent much of his adolescence camping, hunting, and fishing. While in High School Ryan was on the schools wrestling team and while Ryan was not the best wrestler on his team he did manage to hold his own.
When Ryan graduated from high school he and his cousin enlisted in the Star Fleet Marine Corp together. By this time Ryan had grown to love the outdoors and working with his hands. The Marine Corp was the perfect place, in his opinion, to be.
Ryan remained in the Marine Corp for several years where he became a well-trained infantry soldier who saw more than his fair share of combat. Initially Ryan believed he would love the adrenaline rush of battle but he quickly discovered that the appeal of war was an invented concept and that battle itself was very grim and depressing.
Eventually, after a very heart breaking and disturbing incident Ryan received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corp and had planned on living a quiet life on Earth. When war once again broke out Ryan realized he had something to offer the Federation and attempted to reenlist in the Marine Corp. The Corp however rejected his application and instead Ryan joined Star Fleet.
Ryan graduated the Academy after a very short time and was assigned to the USS Avenger where he has proven to be a very useful officer especially in assault missions.
When the Avenger crossed into the new dimension Ryan asked to be removed from his assault actions and instead be assigned to a desk for a while. This was granted and therefore Ryan departed the Avenger for a several month period and resided on Star Base Delta.
When the Avenger returned to Delta after their mission to the Gamma Quadrant, Ryan rejoined the crew of the ship.
