Constellation Class
The Constellation-class starship was a type of Federation starship known as a "star cruiser."
- This class was in service from the late 23rd century through the late 24th century
- Service dates 2280s - 2370s
In 2285, the USS Hathaway was constructed at the Copernicus Ship Yards on Luna, nearly a decade before the official prototype was launched (the USS Constellation).
The Constellation-class has been noted for performing both deep-space exploration and defensive-patrol duties for the Federation. By the 2360s, the "star cruiser" classes were starting to be phased out,
and those that were decommissioned were stripped of their weapons systems and were mothballed.
Any that remained in service were assigned transport duties, or stayed on stand-by in the Reserve Fleet.
Fun Fact:
Captain Jean-Luc Picard commented that the Constellation classes were "overworked, underpowered vessel[s] that [were] always on the verge of flying apart at the seams."
