An injury is the result of damage or harm caused to the structure of the body, impairing its function. The injury is caused by an external agent or force, which may be physical or chemical in nature. Injuries can occur either by accident or intent. Personal injury, as a term, refers to damage caused to one's reputation or state of mind, and not to physical harm to the body.

Injuries may be feigned by a person or animal for various causes.

Physical Trauma

Physical trauma is a term used to describe the effects of an injury, and is usually used in cases of a severe or life-threatening injury. Physical trauma usually involves physiological responses in the subject, such as swelling or a state of shock.

Types of Injury

• Hemorrhaging (Bleeding)
• Wounds
• Burns
• Fractures
• Joint dislocation
• Concussion
• Sprains and strains
• Torn muscles
• Shock
• Dismemberment and amputation
• Serious Bodily Injury- any injury or series of injuries to the body that substantially risks death of the victim.
