Comet Mission 01: "Night of the Viper"

After returning from a rather destructive mission, the crew of the USS Titan was given several months of shore leave while Star Fleet reassigned some of the Officers and began extensive refit and repair to the Titan. Near the completion of the repairs, and while I was temporarily living aboard Starbase Bravo, an unknown alien ship arrived in the system. The base immediately went to alert as the patrol ships that normally cruise the area went silent. All available starships, including the USS Comet BB-102, were scrambled to intercept the alien vessel and determine its intentions. Upon arrival at the scene, we found a ship roughly three times the size and mass of a Federation Battleship. It looked much like a Terran Trilobite with a black hull and knobby projections that we were unable to scan. Unbeknownst to us, a similar ship had invaded the Sol System and Starbase Alpha was likewise on alert.

Apparently a Federation starship in Sol attacked the alien vessel there, causing the invaders to respond in kind. Both ships, the one in Sol and the one near SB-B, opened immense hangar doors which housed three more alien ships. One roughly the size of a heavy cruiser and two destroyer-sized vessels. The alien ships then launched attacks on all Federation starships within their range, causing the destruction of several ships and a loss of life into the thousands. The Comet was beamed aboard the alien mothership as they tried to escape the system, after the loss of the three smaller ships. Using suggestions from the crew, we were able to shoot our way out and return to Starbase Bravo.

Captain's Log, Commodore Tam Otlan, temporarily in command of the USS Comet BB-One-Zero-Two, recording.

While awaiting assignment and repairs of my ship, the Zeus Class Light Cruiser USS Titan CL-Two-Zero-Zero-Seven, Starbase Bravo lost contact with one of its patrol squads. Soon after, they detected a ship coming in on an intercept course.

The unknown alien vessel did not respond to any hails and continued on course after being warned off. All ships currently docked at Bravo were launched to intercept the ship in hopes of determining who they were and why they had come. Cmdr Goudin of Starbase Bravo placed me in command of the fleet as the highest ranking starship Captain.

All hopes that this was going to be a peaceful First Contact situation were dashed when the ship opened up and launched three smaller starships, a heavy cruiser and two destroyers, using Federation size-comparisons, then proceeded to use a type of tractor/repulsor beam to destroy the Columbus Class Scout ship, USS Cook.

I ordered all ships in the vicinity to attack the alien vessels and we have had limited success thus far. The USS Gettysburg, commanded by my old friend Captain Darsyn Syntranos, has managed to punch through the alien ship's hull and has allowed us a strike point that I plan to use to send in an away team. It would appear that we are hopelessly outmatched in firepower with these aliens, but hopefully our combined efforts will prove their match.

We had some success in our counter-attacks of the alien vessels. Having all ships focus their weapons on one of the smaller vessels, we were able to utterly destroy them. We managed to get a second volley off when the Comet was transported first to a position within the circle of alien ships, and then when we broke free, we were transported again within the alien mothership's hangar bay.

I am at a loss as to what to do to get the ship out of here. If we fire our weapons we chance destroying the Comet, but I have no intention of waiting around forever to see what they have planned for us.

If all else fails, I will be forced to destroy the Comet with all hands.

Using suggestions from my bridge crew, we rerouted power to the forward shields from every place we could steal it. Using a precision phaser strike and a spread of quantum torpedoes, we managed to blast our way out of the alien ship. I ordered the Comet back to Starbase Bravo and am unsure what has happened to the alien vessel that invaded our space only a short while ago. With any luck, Star Fleet will be able to trace their trail back to where they came from, or at least learn who we were dealing with.

Unfortunately I have been blinded by the blast and am turning command over to LCdr MacDonald, the Titan's Chief Engineer. I'm hoping the blindness is temporary and LCdr Miller will be able to help me.

Once again I am reminded why the Titan crew is the best in the fleet. They acted courageously and without hesitation to meet this attack head on and beat it back. If I retain command of the Titan, I hope to keep my crew with me.

As the Captain was injured in our escape from the Alien ship. He gave me command of the Comet. I am happy to report that the ship suffered relatively light damage to the hull.

I am concerned about the shield generators. In the process of escape we overloaded fully half of them. Unfortunately, having assessed the damage we cannot repair them ourselves.

All other departments have reported in and I have concluded that the Comet was lucky to have escaped with such minor casualties.

Currently the Comet is en route back to the Starbase. I anticipate no more problems and have been informed that Captain Otlan will be able to return to duty soon.

So far we have had next to nothing in the luck against this alien ship. Where ever it is from or what ever species it is we have never encountered anything like it.

Its hull can withstand phaser blasts and they have no shields. Their language is something not even the Universal Translator can understand.

I have led a team onto the mothership and it is a strange place, kinda leaves an after effect in the back of your throat. Right now the Comet has been transported inside of one of the alien vessels with apparently no way out.

I only hope that we can discover a way out before the Aliens decide what to do with us...

A recent host of surprises has turned up. On my return to the Titan I had to transfer across to the Comet. Upon arriving on the Comet I realised that something was up especially as I find Captain Otlan in command.

Instantly I volunteered as the Chief Engineer for the mission. Having just arrived I had not fully understood what we were upto.

We arrived to confront an alien ship, which was totally new to us. We were unprepared for the aliens. At one point the Comet was transported inside the largest alien ship.

We escaped through finding a weakspot in it's hull and blasting free. The ship was saved by us re-routing all available power into the shields. It was not totally 100% effective as the Comet's shield generators overloaded and are currently offline.

Once we were clear the next surprise happned. Otlan was blinded by the blast and passed command of the ship over to me. I must say that I was very shocked as I had never really wanted command of a ship. I admit that when I was younger I had dreamed of commanding my own ship. But recently I have grown accustomed to being a Chief Engineer.

Thus commanding a ship has ignited a spark inside me now. I know that the command is only temporary but the thrill is unlike anything I have experienced.

I have considered applying to take the Bridge Officer's Exam. This would then make me eligible to take command of a ship on a more regular basis.

Stardate 20501.31

LCdr Miller Acting Chief Medical Officer's Log Stardate 20501.31 Lieutenant Commander Wyatt Miller recording:

First, I'd like to commend the medical crew of the USS Titan for the valiant and brave efforts during this most recent set of events. All of them served with honor and many with great distinction. It is a great pleasure to serve with them.

After leaving the Titan for a brief shoreleave, the Federation was invaded... again. Thankfully this invasion force was comparatively small. However, like the Borg, I fear that this is only the precursor to many more troubles the Federation will face ahead.

After SBB was put on high alert and all crewmen were recalled to their ships, the Titan crew, with nowhere else to go - the Titan was still being refitted at the time - boarded the USS Comet, a battleship... much larger than the Titan.

Because I was in Sickbay for the entire duration of the firefight, I can't say what really happened other than that we treated very few minor injuries. The worst case I had, actually, was the CO, Commodore Otlan, who was temporarily blinded. He appears to be responding well to treatment, however, and should regain his full sight within the next couple of days.

The Comet is currently en route to SBB where we will hopefully meet up with Commander Sky, my boss. I have a few gifts to give her and want to catch up on things with my good friend.
