Personal History

Khasretara sh'Thane was born within her clan's family compound eleven months after her parents solidified their marriage bond thought the shelthreth. On Stardate 18412.06 during a particularly harsh blizzard, one of her father's, Erib ch'Thane, had braved the weather to repair their private power conduit when the storm had caused a blackout during the most crucial stages of the birthing.

Being the oldest child, Tara had responsibilities beyond her years. Many times when her shen-mother was called to duty and her chen-father had lessons to teach, she would be responsible for the infant Keval and eventually Shres. This is usually considered normal in Andorian society.

sh'Thane excelled in primary and secondary levels of Andorian education, showing form an early age an affinity for the medical sciences. Her studies were impeded temporarily when sh'Thane and friend Thirishar sh'Raazh were caught in a cavern cave-in, causing her to sustain sever ice bore burns and the loss of an antennae due to falling rock.

Once the secondary education level was complete at age 18, sh'Thane traveled to Earth and applied to Star Fleet Academy for the first time. Her scores were high on all general tests, but she failed a final exam on hyperspace physics. sh'Thane returned to Andoria and the Andorian Academy to redouble her efforts, attaining a basic medical degree in the process. Two years later, she was accepted into SFA Medical Division.

Tara studied Klingon culture during this time and once mentioned treating a Klingon who had misjudged an orbital skydiving session while in SFA, allowing her an opportunity to learn the basics of the Klingon language

In 2409, Cadet sh'Thane earned first place in SFA's Annual Marathon.

sh'Thane graduated after four years of Star Fleet Medical training in 2410 and was assigned to USS Enterprise, CV-07 shortly after the official announcement of another war with the Romulans. She was involved in the Battle of Starbase 157 by assisting medical personnel with incoming casualties.

Tara joined the Enterprise as it broke off to become the flagship of the newly christened Special Operations Group and their first mission; travel through Klingon Space to Qo'noS in an attempt to persuade the Klingons to join in arms against the Romulans. During this mission, many strange occurrences took place. The discovery that terrorist Midshipman Hurley, who had tried to commander the Enterprise, had implanted a strange device in his one time girlfriend Ensign Beth Way was discovered by sh'Thane and was later turned over to a joint effort between Science and Engineering.

Weeks later into the Klingon mission, an unfortunate accident in Sickbay caused an explosion and the deaths of sixteen Medical personnel. sh'Thane herself was injured in the blast, dislocating an antennae. Due to a misunderstanding in handling Andorian patients, Doctor Gabriel Fairen broke the taboo of touching an antennae with his bare hands. This misunderstanding led to Tara receiving a reprimand on her service record for insubordination when she tried to settle the incident in the traditional manner; challenging a death dual known as the Ushaan between herself and Fairen, although she did not intend to follow through by postponing it indefinitely due to neither officer having children at the time. The act was to merely satisfy Andorian laws as recognized by the Federation.

Upon arriving to Qo'noS Sickbay was still in the process of recovering when the Enterprise was taken into Klingon custody and held within a giant space station christened Kalok-One. With Emperor Kalok's approval special Klingon shock troopers were dispatched on a information gathering mission. These beings were discovered to be not entirely organic in nature and indiscreet in killing any person to stand in their way. In an effort to protect patients and other Medical staff from their assault sh'Thane ended up locked within an examination room with one of these. Just before it attacked and murdered the Andorian, every shock trooper were mysteriously recalled back to the station.

Just afterwards a call came in to Sickbay from the surface of the Klingon Homeworld; Captain Mike Wong had discovered a strange genetically engineered virus affecting a number of the Klingon Council during his diplomatic mission. sh'Thane beamed down directly into the office of Klingon Chancellor Ravka with portable lab equipment. With their combined efforts a cure was discovered using a rare chemical present in Tara's Andorian blood known as chalaka.

For her efforts and helping to patch up an injured General Zakk, Tara was officially made a member of the House of Ravka, part of the House of Martok.

The weaponized virus, however, proved to be contagious to Andorians albeit with an unusual consequence of triggering the shelth, a mating drive. Wong managed to provide a temporary solution to keep Tara from sub coming to its effects until they were extracted from the surface and was able to return to the freed Enterprise.

The shelth continued to plague Tara as she searched for an artificial means of halting it within Sickbay. She was unsuccessful but managed to quell her desires for a mate with the assistance of Captain Wong. In the aftermath the pair mutually decided to begin a romantic relationship secretly from the rest of the crew and Star Fleet.

Soon after returning to Star Base 24, Ensign sh'Thane was promoted to full lieutenant and given the position of Chief Medical Officer on the Enterprise. The promotion was bittersweet as that same night she learned of Wong's assignment as Commanding Officer of USS Dauntless, effective immediately. Mike and Tara spent that night together saying goodbye, possibly for the last time.

Life for sh'Thane continued to spiral downward, as five weeks later her clan requested that Tara return home to Andoria for her mother's funeral after being declared killed in the line of duty. With her family's need coming ahead of Star Fleet, Tara gave up the position of CMO, as she would not be able to perform her duties adequately, and took a personal leave of absence from active service. While returning home, Keval had discovered a letter addressed to Tara from Wong, exposing their intimate relationship tothe family. Keval found this a dishonor to their Andorian heritage and challenged sh'Thane to an honor dual, winner slaying the other on the blade of their ushaan-tor. Tara managed to win the battle against her once beloved brother, but by refusing to make the killing blow was dishonored and abandoned by her family, forbidden from returning.

Afterwards, she spent some time aboard a civilian medical ship, USS Covenant, with her friend and mentor Doctor Richard Kimble to recover and grief over her loss. At the time they had planned on starting an Andorian medical facility together on Earth.

During this cruise the Covenant was called to assist the USS Dauntless in evacuating the planet Tenka, bringing about the long awaited reuniting of Tara and Captain Wong, sealed with a kiss. sh'Thane remained on board the Dauntless for some time after this mission, though never returning to active service.

During the next shore leave, Mike and Tara took a trip to his family home in Taiwan and visited the local market. It was a fascinating experience for the Andorian, who had the chance to discover another part of Earth culture and more about her Human lover's past. The couple then set out on an adventure to Antartica so Tara could enjoy some cold weather while on leave, but the trip was ill fated, as they were soon captured by a mysterious group.

Keval had recovered from the Ushaan dual and had plotted his revenge by selling his sister and Wong to a mad scientist in return for information to aid a terrorist group on Andoria with the goal of severing ties with the Federation. sh'Thane soon became nothing more than an experiment, the scientist using her body to perfect an immoral method of rewriting the DNA of a person so that they became identical to any other species. Tara had become Human.

During their captivity, Tara used the opportunity to confess her love to Mike, stating that she did not want to be with any other. Wong was shocked by this revelation, not expecting it to come at such a time, and was unable to reciprocate the feelings to Tara's heartbreak.

sh'Thane and Wong were soon rescued by a team from Dauntless led by Chief Engineer Komoscov, cementing the friendship with the burly Klingon, but the happy ending was short lived. Star Fleet medical technology had no method to correct the genetic changes in Tara, for the time being she would have to remain in her new Human body. This was another heavy blow to the woman, who felt like she had lost her last connection to her home and heritage.

The Dauntless was then called to assist the planet Vulcan during a quadrant wide crisis that also affected Andoria among other planets. sh'Thane, still recovering in Sickbay, found out that her home planet was in distress and slipped out of her medical care to try a last ditch effort to contact her family. The unauthorized communication was discovered by Security and, in an unfortunate accident, Khasretara sh'Thane was shot by friendly fire and placed in stasis on stardate 21002.24. She was promoted to Lieutenant Commander after declared dead by the medical team.

On stardate 21004.02, while Dauntless was on a supply mission, they were intercepted by an alien force and scanned with unknown technology that produced a mysterious blue light, causing nausea and vomiting in most of the crew. This force however had another affect on the near death sh'Thane, reviving her and returning her Andorian body to an almost untouched state, the only negative side effect being amnesia. She could not remember any event occurring after the moment she was called down to Qo'noS to assist Captain Wong in that ill-fated mission months ago.

It was during this mission Dauntless had came across apparently very powerful beings known as 'the Great Ones' who put the crew up to three challenges; strange machinery that spouted homicidal mechanoids, a possibly hostile confrontation with a Ferengi warship, and a strange genetic condition that threatened to kill everyone on board within a day at least. At the time Tara had thought she found a lead to the condition within a blood sample of an 'advisor' of sorts to the Dauntless sent by the Great Ones, but then one of the more strange incidents incidents in her life occurred.

The Andorian doctor didn't remember very much clearly after taking the alien's blood sample. In fact, the last but fragmented memory she could form was finding herself transported off of Dauntless to Star Base Alpha, thousands of light years away. To complicate matters, she appeared in the middle of their local tavern stark naked. After that, she remembered only waking up in their medical facilities and a barrage of questions thrown at her by both Star Fleet Command and station Security.

SBA did eventually confirm her identity after some time, but instead of letting it be lost time sh'Thane had taken a very unofficial posting on the station. Along with offering an extra hand to the medical staff, she had used the opportunity to take some Command training courses and brush up on Star Fleet Medical's going-ons and ship protocol in general. It had been a good two months for sh'Thane, all things considered, but once the announcement was made of a gathering on Carraya IV she booked transport with the plan of meeting up with the Dauntless crew en route to the conference.

There on Carraya Doctor sh'Thane was issued new orders to take the position of Chief Medical Officer on the Berlin-class USS Philadelphia, FF-6053, which had been refitted for duty. Their first objective was to rendezvous with the USS Nova where the Command staff was currently serving so control of the Philadelphia could be transferred. Tara served as temporary First Office during the journey.
