Personal History

Jack was born in London to a family who were routed in the theatre. As an only child Jack spent most of his time surrounded by the audiences of his parents' performances, learning the trade from as early as he can remember. By the time he was just ten years old, Jack was a talented performer - singing and dancing his way through numerous performances and relishing the applause of his fans. Eventually, he became a local celebrity, by which time Jack was still only a young teenager.

When Jack wasn't on the stage, his other passion would be found in the stars. One of his uncles, a retired travelling merchant, would frequently fill his head with stories of the stars and distant planets he used to trade with. This would be much to the annoyance of his parents, who had other plans for their rising young star. However, whenever he could Jack would sit himself at his Uncle Tom's feet and listen in wonder to another thrilling tale.

At age 16, Jack was preparing for a lead role in one of the musicals that his parents were producing. In it, he was to be acting as the lovestruck tenor alongside a young girl named Larissa, who would play his lover. The show was a success - a huge success in fact. For the next few weeks whenever Jack would venture out from his family home he would be accosted by people trying to get his autograph, arrange interviews with him and befriend him. Initially, he lapped up the fame and glory - who wouldn't want to be the main focus of the entire community! As the weeks past however, the strain began to show, as Jack couldn't even venture outside without being spotted and swarmed by people trying to find out when his next show would be. Jack's love of entertainment had proven to be his downfall, and as much as he loved to bring joy to people while he was on the stage, even he wasn't prepared to do it at the cost of his humanity.

Six months or so later, Jack had turned seventeen. Frustrated at not being able to live a normal life he eschewed the stage and left his home in London to live with his Uncle in San Francisco. His parents, naturally, were distraught. However they had come to accept that some time away would be good for him, and were expecting him to return within a few months or so. Much to their dismay however, they were wrong. After months of listening to his Uncle's stories about the stars, Jack was convinced in himself to see more of the universe. He enrolled into the Academy with his Uncle's blessing, and only upon receiving his cadet pips did he tell his parents.

Furious with him, Robert and Elizabeth chastised their son for this apparent betrayal. After all, they had high hopes for him! He was going to be famous, known across the quadrant for his skills! Jack was crushed by discovering his parents would not give him their blessing, and since graduating from the Academy has not spoken to either of them for years, receiving the occasional update from his Uncle Tom.

Upon graduating, Jack received his first commission aboard the USS Pulsar. He found himself incredibly over-excited, and jumped into his new duties with a smile and bounce that many people had come to expect from him. He carried himself with a degree of over-confidence, joking his way through many different social circles aboard the immense battleship and finding his way into more than a few different beds. Jack thought he had found the easiest deal in the Federation, piloting a massive battleship from here to there and all the while enjoying the comforts and privileges of a Star Fleet Officer.

Until his first away mission.

In his over-confidence, Jack volunteered to escort the Federation Ambassador Sid O'Hanlan down to the? planet Ecurai - the newly established homeworld of the Democratic Romulan Republic. The treaty being signed would ensure victory over the Romulan Star Empire and bring an end to the war that had raged throughout the alpha quadrant. As he piloted the shuttle towards the surface, a group of Romulan agents hijacked the small ship, kidnapping Jack, the ambassador and the rest of the away team. In his incarceration, Jack was tortured. People were brutally murdered in front of him, he was physically and mentally abused by his Romulan captors, and only his desire to look good in front of his commanding officer prevented him from breaking. His own over-confidence kept him together through the punishment.

Upon his rescue, a different man returned to the Pulsar. His face had lost the signature cheeky grin, his eyes were no longer filled with joy and over-confidence. Only the harsh realisation of war lingered. For his efforts down on Ecurai, he was promoted to ensign, and as he received his new pip the applause from his peers no longer felt like a wonderful drug to him. It was at that moment that Jack knew he was a different man. A man ready to serve the Federation as he was supposed to.

On Stardate 21005.02, Jack was killed in the line of duty on the planet Elteban III.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Tactical operations
Academy Minor(s): Warp field mechanics, stellar cartography
Hobbies and Pastimes: Despite being a long way from his roots, Jack still loves the stage and everything associated with it
Short-Term Goals: To experience the wealth of adventures his Uncle Tom had
Long-Term Goals: To captain his own ship, direct the adventures and prove to his parents that his life is his own, not theirs
Personality: Jack's 'whistle while you work' mentality still remains despite his ordeal, but it is less frequent. He still retains his ability to cheer people up, but it is now more of an effort for him. In general, these days Jack is a lot more direct in his conversations, and largely more driven to succeed in his goals.
Sense of Humor: Jack still prides himself in having a brilliant sense of humour, but in reality he doesn't laugh as much as he used to.
Phobias: None specific
Likes: Exploring, Acting/Singing/Dancing, Socializing
Dislikes: Being reminded of his failures, being alone with his thoughts.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Hates people who are shy and reserved, finds them impossible
Bad Habits or Vices: Humming or Singing to himself is usually his way of relaxing, but he knows it can irritate some people
Achievements: As well as his achievements on the stage in London, Jack ran the Dramatics Society in the Academy for 2 successful years
Disappointments: The animosity between him and his parents
Illnesses: Usual human childhood illness
Strengths: Jack has an incredibly quick wit, specifically in social situations. He is good at saying the right thing at the right time. He's also pretty handy at the helm of a starship
Weaknesses: If Jack realizes someone doesn't like him, it can really get to him. Sometimes he also finds it difficult to get people to take him seriously, especially people that know him well
Fears: That he'll never live up to what he wants to be and that discovering that his parents were right all along
Prejudices: Jack still has very little time for shy and reserved people, but these days he can't help feeling animosity towards Romulans, and on bad days even Vulcans simply because of the distant relation.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Jack's taste in clothing has dulled since joining Star Fleet. Neutral, practical clothes are more to his tastes now.
Distinguishing Features: Nothing physically, although many people comment on his signature cheeky smile.
Pets: None
Friends: There is nobody that Jack would regard as his best friend - being a natural entertainer, his life is usually more focused on finding a crowd rather than just one individual. If there was someone he had to confide in however, it would be his Academy flatmate Adam Marshall.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: When Jack's parents effectively ostracised him for choosing to forego their wishes and chase his dreams of exploration. It's something he has never really recovered from, and is probably one of the few things he won't relish in talking about
Best Time: Despite the feud with his parents, growing up on the stage in London really did provide him with some of the best moments of his life
Most Crucial Experience: Moving to San Francisco was a huge moment in his life, but the decision to stay there and enroll in Star Fleet was even harder
Role Model: His Uncle Tom. The stories that he shared with Jack have kept with him throughout his life, and have provided some vital lessons as he became a man
