Personal History

Daniel is an only child. Being brought up on a farm with his mother and father he wanted more from life then being stuck on the farm. Even through his father was a scientist who had a workshop on the grounds. Brooks never got to see his father much as he was always working. His mother ran the farm with a few helpers. Dan always had other dreams to go up among the stars and did so on a visit to Mars aged 8 with his mother as his father was too busy it was just them. While there he caught a fever which then turned into Ankaran flu took several days of treatment. Daniel was in hospital for just over a week before he was allowed to head back to Earth.

However, this didn't stop him from wanting to join Star Fleet and visit all kinds of strange and new worlds. With Dan not taking any interest in his fathers work it began to distance them to the point where they would only see each other once or twice a week.

He took up more outdoor activities which included horse riding and swimming. The swimming proved worth while as he won the inter-planet swimming contest when he was 16. Due to him and his father not getting along very well he was surprised to see him in the crowd, but that was the first and last time his father took any interest in what his son was doing.

When he was about to sign up to join Star Fleet it was the first time in two years they had a fight over something that Dan thought his father would have been proud of, but instead his father completely cut himself off from Dan in doing so it made it the last time they talked to each-other.

Dan has kept in touch with his mother who has been a great support to him and has been in everything that he has done.

USS Copernicus GSC-9035

Daniel was assigned to the Copernicus who was in the 3rd Fleet. Being the furthermost away from Earth there was little chance of getting to go home.

Brooks returned to Earth when the Copernicus was re-assigned to the First Battle Group. He went to patch things up with his family which seemed to have worked but there was still something wrong that he could put his finger on. During his stay he also visited his friend Alan Taylor's grave.

Along with Lieutenant St.Vrain, Brooks was kidnapped by a primitive group of humans while on an away mission to a planet in the Gamma Cephei system. The rest of the away team noticed they were missing and went in search. However, they were not in time to stop the locals' torture of Brooks, though they were in time to prevent St.Vrain being injured. Shortly after the away mission Brooks was promoted to Lieutenant Commander to the joy of his family. However it was short lived when he was called back to Star Fleet Medical to help assist in Cardiac surgery. Daniel re-joined to USS Copernicus on Stardate 21009.17.

Daniel had to see the Ship's Counselor after he was suffering from nightmares from being kidnapped, on recommendation of his fellow officer Peter Powell and Elspeth St.Vrain - who he had been dating for a while. Brooks and St. Vrain's relationship was being kept quiet for a while but it wasn't long before it was ship gossip and in the end they made it known to the rest of the crew.

Brooks took the Bridge Officer Command Test, where he had to send the Chief Engineer to his death. It was his friend Peter Powell at the time and he tried every other possible way out of the situation but he had to give in and make the impossible decision of sending his fellow officer to his death to save the ship.

Brooks was surprised when Commander Hawk offered him the role of Second Officer on the Copernicus after Lieutenant Commander Fields was promoted to First Officer. He was very honoured to be offered the position and accepted it.

Brooks was taken through a dark patch in his personal life when Peter Powell left Starfleet to look after a family member, and this was swiftly followed by an MIA report on Elspeth St.Vrain, who had been reassigned just before the last war. He found reports on someone who answered her description, only to go cold once she took a freighter ship, which didn't log where it was going.

With some major crew changes, including department heads and a new first officer, Brooks felt like a dinosaur and tried to adjust, which took a little time. In fact, if he self-diagnosed himself, it would have shown that he was going through a belt of depression. Having recovered by readjusting his outlook thanks to Chief Engineering Officer Boislevesque, now First Officer of the Sheridan, Dan went to Earth to see the new president on First Contact Day.

First Contact Day was eventful not just on stage but off. Brooks got bumped into by Mori Lunori and it started an unusual relationship between them. Having had a fling back at Lunori's flat, Dan left thinking that was that. However a little while later to his utter shock, he bumped into her again this time on the Copernicus. Their relationship started off on rather angry terms which quickly softened as they both saw there was a mutual attraction between them. For the rest of the crew their relationship caused a lot of rumor and speculation as well as spectacle.

USS Sheridan DD-4086

Just when things were going right for him, Daniel was very suddenly transferred by order to the USS Sheridan. Much to Captain Jane Fields annoyance since having lost a few of her crew who had transferred off the Copernicus. It was also a very sad time for Daniel as most of his career had been on that ship. He always knew a day like this would come and felt like his world would fall apart again when Lt Lunori admitted to him that she was betrothed to another who was from Betazed. Brooks felt humiliated as well as angry at the outcome. It turned into a fight with Lunori's fiancé before they parted and that was the last, he saw of her. Arriving on the Sheridan a couple of days later, Brooks suddenly felt it came at the right time. For a fresh start.

Having settled in on the Sheridan and with the arrival of Doctor Hurst. Brooks buried himself in his work, until one day out of the blue when Lunori arrived on the ship. It turned out that Commander Boislevesque had asked for her much to Daniel's disgust. A very awkward time ensued between the pair and it turned out Lunori was pregnant. Eventually, Lunori gave birth to twins and that fiancé that had evil intentions whom also previously had a telepathic hold over her was no longer a threat and shortly after Lunori gave birth.

Admiral Jal who was commanding the Sheridan had to return to his office at the Outpost. In doing so he gave Commander Boislevesque Acting Commanding Officer and told Boislevesque it was his choice on who he would pick as Acting First Officer. Daniel was surprised by the fact that the Commander asked him to take on the role. Which Brooks did as a duel seated one as he was still Chief Medical Officer as well as AFO. It was really like when he was second officer on the Cop. Changing into the Command Red uniform took some getting use to and it seemed at this moment in time nothing was set in stone weather it was going to be a point when he had to give up his medical tricorder.

Having got though the mission as Acting First Officer, Commander Boislevesque gave him a promotion to full Commander and to be the First Officer of the Sheridan. Daniel felt pleased that Command had recognised him in such a way. He wanted to tell his parents but would rather tell them in person rather over the subspace channels. At the same time Commander Boislevesque got his promotion to Captain.

They didn’t have long to celebrate as they were soon sent off on their next mission. This wasn’t to be a very exciting one but more of a daily one. It was battle drills with the Ozaki. They had some new faces aboard and new Department Heads and as a result Dan could see why. The mission however, was suddenly cancelled and everyone was recalled. It turned out the Borg had returned…. It sent a shiver down Dan’s back. Hoping that the twins were safe as well as Lunori and also his parents.

The mission was successful, even through Dan suffered an injury from a Borg Drone and they vowed to return. Several ships had been destroyed in the battle and the Sheridan suffered a lot of damage. Brooks could see a lot of work would need to be done to get the ship back up operationally giving away again to little time off which he was used to by now. Star Fleet did however reward him with his second Diamond Star of his career with regards to the battle with the Borg. It gave a small comfort due to how many were lost in the battle.

A diplomatic mission was a follow up, it took them to Farpoint station. Everything was going well in getting the treaty signed before himself and Captain Boislevesque both ended up being poisoned. Lucky enough they both pulled through but even so Daniel deeply regretted that they both had to be present at such an occasion that left them open to such an act. Even, through the treaty got signed and the Sheridan was recalled from Pioneer back to Star Base Alpha.

USS Charon, RSV-88003

Prior to been assigned to a new ship. Daniel was sent on some training during shore leave in the Tactical Department. Upon setting foot upon the Brand new Vessel all became clear when Captain Harrison Boislevesque wanted him to become the new Chief Tactical Officer while promoting Doctor Hurst fully into his position as the ships Chief Medical Officer. It was a strange move but also something Commander Brooks would later have a debate with his CO about it as his counter-part on their sister ship didn't have to duel role, this didn't have to go on long thanks to the arrival of Commander Archen who took over as CTO. Even, through he was now no longer doing two roles his work load seem to triple overnight.
