Personal History

Hazel grew up very comfortably, wanting nothing. Her father Richard was a successful prosecutor, her mother was the head of an influential child-welfare non-profit. She respected her parents’ occupations and understood that she too was expected to one day take a position that would help her community in some form, and it was something she intended to do. She drifted a bit at boarding school, while she enjoyed animation; she was pants at art herself, much to her chagrin, she could barely manage a miserable stick-figure person (though her stills were somewhat more successful). Though she was well-versed in politics, her parents insisted that both she and her brother keep tabs on goings on both on Earth and the Federation in general, they never grabbed her interest the way it did her brother. Law interested her even less. The only thing really held her attention was chemistry, when her teachers had classes investigating unknowns. She loved putting together the hints to come up with the whole. None in her class could beat her in speed, nor quality of her work and her teachers took delight in giving her greater and greater challenges. Her last year in school, her chemistry professor suggested she pursue forensics, and idea which instantly clicked.

Her father wasn’t entirely thrilled with her chosen line of work—but once Hazel made it clear that she wanted to attend the Academy and join Star Fleet, he accepted her desires whole-heartedly. Her mother wasn’t nearly as easy to convince—Elizabeth didn’t want her only daughter to join at all-- and they had several rows about it. Her mother only temporarily gave in when her daughter was packed and ready to leave for San Francisco, at which point she realized that nothing she could say was going to change the fact that her daughter was going to leave, regardless of her wishes

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Forensics, specializing in chemistry, with a dabble of biology and anthropology
Academy Minor(s): Security Operations
Hobbies and Pastimes: Reading and attempted writing of mystery novels, watching old films, playing on the holodeck
Short-Term Goals: Get her mother to accept her profession; or baring that, get her to at least stop mentioning it in every other communication they have together
Long-Term Goals: Get published, whether for her work, or on the novel she one day plans to write, she likes the thought of seeing her name in print for others to read
Personality: Generally upbeat, tries to find the humor wherever she can, though she knows when to be serious. She is generally optimistic and tries to be cheery, even if she doesn’t always feel that way
Sense of Humor: She loves bad jokes, puns and humor. Sometimes while working her humor can get on the morbid side, but she prefers to keep it upbeat
Phobias: None
Likes: The color pink, 23rd century Terran artwork, sailing
Dislikes: Stuffy dinner parties; legalese
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People not willing to relax a little at work; people dismissive of others professions because they don’t understand them, or because they feel that person doesn’t fit that job
Achievements: 1st place at regional science fair, learning how to make inane small talk that increases contributions to her mother’s organization
Disappointments: That she hasn’t yet brought her mom around to her point of view. Never making it past the first round of a handful of writing competitions that entered prior to her joining the Academy
Illnesses: Nothing beyond normal childhood diseases
Strengths: Cool head, good puzzle solver, innate curiosity about the world
Weaknesses: Sometimes prone to daydreams, doesn’t always know when to lay off on the jokes
Fears: Feeling that she won’t live up to expectations, whether they are her friends, family or her own, that she won’t ever marry (a very low priority for the moment, but in the plans at some point in the future)
Prejudices: None
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Colorful sweaters and long, simple skirts. Bright, cheery-colored clothing that looks like as if she borrowed it, because they clash with the more somber image she usually presents at work
Distinguishing Features: A small tattoo of the Bromley family crest, with the family motto “Non inferior secuts” underneath just inside her left shoulder-blade on her back
Pets: At home, a Siberian Husky by the name of Max. Aboard ship, two bowls each containing singular, unnamed beta fish
Friends: Victoria Barrett, who was her first roommate at boarding school. The girls clicked instantly, sharing a similar love for animals and old cartoons and piecing together the crimes from old mystery novels

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Giving into temptation and cheating on an exam in middle school—and getting caught. The disappoint on everyone faces hurt much more than the punishment
Best Time: Rare moments when her family went away on vacation without bringing work with them
Most Crucial Experience: Sitting quietly in the courtroom during some of her fathers trials, and seeing the pride that he had in doing public service
Role Model: Her teachers, who helped her find her way
