Though Leila enjoys working around the farm, there wasn’t really a place for her once she got out of high school. Her brothers had already taken over running things, and Leila was far too independent and bossy to take orders from them. She decided that she could find more adventure and excitement in Star Fleet. After speaking to several guidance counselors, she decided to pursue a career in the Medical field. She took to it surprisingly fast and quickly decided to join medical school, where she prospered. Personal History

Leila grew up on a cattle farm on the outskirts of Arlington, TX with her two older brothers. When they weren’t attending public school, they were helping out on the farm. Leila is an accomplished horseback rider and cattler wrangler, and she loves animals of all kinds, but she feels most relaxed when she’s covered in grease while rebuilding an internal combustion engine.

Leila’s natural compassion for animals translated to human patients very well, and also inspired her to major in Xenobiology. It was also a good choice for her future career in Star Fleet.

After finishing medical school, she took a residency position in General Medicine on a small starship that frequently travelled between Vulcan and Denobula. She received significant experience treating both species as well as humans. After her residency, she replaced the Chief Medical Officer and learned how to run a department, though she only had a couple of crew members under her.

Throughout her career, Leila applied to be on larger ships, and she finally received the offer of Assistant Chief Medical Officer on the USS Enterprise, CV-07. Though it meant a demotion in position, it was the chance she was looking for to stand out in the crowd by serving on a prestigious ship that had a lot more going on than the scouting route between Vulcan and Denobula.

The sheer size of the Enterprise and her crew was a culture-shock to Leila at first, but she soon found her footing and began to set herself apart from the other Medical Officers both with her patients and administratively. It was the latter along with her natural leadership abilities that finally allowed her to be promoted to Chief Medical Officer of the Enterprise.

Leila served in this position for a couple of years before she believed she had gained the experience to become a First Officer. She waited several months before receiving an interview with Captain Torgh of the USS Dauntless, CA-1553.
