The Brikar are a roughly-humanoid, technologically-advanced species from the low-gravity world of Brikar.
Known widely as a proud, stoic, warrior race, they made first contact with the Federation some time before the 2380s.
Characterized by their large stature and rock-like skin, Brikar are a strong and hardy people, able to withstand strikes from bladed weapons
or large boulders without discernible harm.
However, their skin does not render them impenetrable, and they do require EV suits when working in open space.
Biology and Physiology
Most recognizable as rock-like beings, the variation of a Brikar depends on the region they were born.
Some of this species have skin that is smooth like a boulder, and some have more jagged edges.
A few Brikar have been compared to Earth statues, and have tried to incognito and gain intel using this to their advantage.
As an inorganic, silicon-based race, there can be times when Brikar do not show up on life scans. Certain Starfleet Brikar officers have used this to their advantage, infiltrating enemy ships and ground-based locations. There are many medical theories that their silicon make-up allows for this species to be resistant against certain forms of radiation, but not many Federation members have been willing to test any of these theories.
The average Brikar is capable of lifting several kilograms (100 kg = ~220 lbs), even in a variety of gravities. Despite their bulkiness, they are also capable of swift movement, and can withstand high altitudes due to their increased lung capacity. This species is also able to withstand phaser fire that would otherwise greatly harm other humanoid beings, as well as most bladed weapons. Conversely, if a Brikar should need surgery for any reason, it is best to have a specialist perform it. Surgery on these being is notoriously difficult, as was the case during an emergency surgery on a Starfleet officer that required a mining laser in place of a traditional Starfleet Medical scalpel.
At an indeterminate age, Brikar undergo a metamorphosis that is apparently akin to the Human phase of "puberty." Large portions of their rock-like skin shed away, revealing new skin underneath. This molting signifies a move from adolescence and into adulthood, but is not a culturally-celebrated moment as in other cultures, such as Klingons.
Of high note: Their average life-span is at least several hundred years.
Culture and Society
Their spoken language consists of deep growls that can sometimes cause trouble with Starfleet's Universal Translator.
On their home planet, they do not wear clothes, and have no to little sense of modesty.
Known History
Little history is of the planet Brikar, as the people do not see a reason to share it with the Federation.
One Brikar (Kebron) was the third of his species to enter Starfleet Academy in the year 2357. He was also the first to graduate.
Most Brikar have what could be considered a 'traditional' dislike for the Klingon people, dating back to border disputes that occurred before the Klingon-Federation Alliance of 2293.
