Personal History

Early Childhood – Born to two loving parents on the planet Rutia IV, her first few years were peaceful. Showed a natural interest in the world around her, including plants and animals, and would always be found in the arboretum near her home when she wasn’t in school with her mother. At the age of 6, just as she was to start her own education, her father went missing…

Her father was in the city on business when a rogue terrorist group from the Ansata days attacked the town square. The chaos was immense, but the terrorists were quickly dispatched from the scene by the police. However, three people had disappeared during the onslaught, including her father. They were believed taken, but some feel perhaps they were killed and disposed of in secrecy. To this day, no one has found out what happened to them.

With the help of her strong-willed mother and a great support group around her family, she was able to come to terms with the loss of her father, and throw herself into her passions later in her childhood. She grew even more fascinated with botany and mycology, spending even more time in the gardens, growing her own plants and herbs. She became known as the Garden Whisperer during her teenage years, and even was the subject of ridicule by her peers. She had no real friends, but she never wavered from her interest in her studies and hobbies.

Starfleet Academy – When Me’Lea heard about Starfleet for the first time when she was 16, she was highly interested. Her mother was against her going from the beginning, but being just as strong-willed and stubborn as her mother, she continued to research the Federation in secret. She learned about the history of the government, what trials they had gone through in the past, including the wars between the Klingons and the Romulans, all the way up to the Dominion War. The one thing she learned most about Starfleet is that ‘no matter what happens, good will overcome’. She wanted to be a part of that world.

She sent out a communique to someone in the Academy, wishing to find out how to join and when she could do so. A few days later, the letter came back giving her exactly what she needed to know.

On her 18th birthday, after already filling out all the needed information she could on her own as a minor, she caught a shuttle flight to the nearest Outpost from her home to catch a ride to Earth. All she took with her was what she could fit in her duffel bag. While waiting on word whether she was going to be admitted to the Academy, she stayed here and there at random shelters along the Coast of San Francisco.

Me’Lea was accepted almost immediately, and began to throw herself into the knowledge that the Academy offered on the subjects she felt so dearly about. Botany, Mycology, Geology, Herbology… all of it. For nearly four years, she would do nothing but study, work out, listen to her favorite music and soak it all in.

Me’Lea did, however, one day, meet a very interesting person. It was in her 2nd year in the Academy, and she was taking a stroll through the park on a very sunny and warm day in San Francisco. Out of nowhere, she heard a shriek of surprise and just as she turned around, a tall female body rammed into her at full speed. They both collapsed on the ground in shock, but then soon after, raucous laughter. The tall female body would be no other than NaTisha Evarson (Tish). To this day, their friendship is rock solid, and Tish is still the only one she talks to on a daily basis. All because Tish didn’t know how to use a hover scooter properly. Who would have thought that the two girls would both be in all the same classes together, and love the same things?

Disappointments: Still has never been on a real date. Her mother stopped contacting her a year after she left. Hasn’t spoken to her since.

Strengths: Her skills in herbology allow her to stay healthy, and recommend herbal remedies to those in need. She is incredibly quick to grasp new concepts.
Weaknesses: Way too shy for her own good. She has a soft, friendly voice, but she stutters a bit when she meets new people, making her first encounters very awkward.
Fears: Losing her best friend Tish. Getting terminally ill.
Prejudices: None. Well… Aggressive people make her very uneasy.

Friends: Tish Evarson (classmate through the Academy), both are avid plant lovers and huge nerds together in their off time. She’s the only person Me’Lea feels she can open up to.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: She was bullied a lot in high school, but the worst came one day when, in her Junior year, a group of kids attacked her. They held her down and covered her in mud and dirt, saying “If you love plants so much, why don’t you become one?” before hosing her down with a lawn hose. Since then, she never shared anything with anyone again, until she met Tish.
Best Time: The day she moved in to the Academy dorm and was able to settle in. She felt like it was a fresh start for her, and the stress of her childhood was behind her.
Most Crucial Experience: After her father’s death, one of her mother’s friends who worked at the Arboretum took her under her wing and helped her get into her hobbies and interests. Starting at the age of 6, she had already started to learn how to garden and prune, and by the next year she could name nearly five dozen unique plant species by sight alone.
Role Model: Jadzia Dax. She spent a lot of time studying about the Trill woman and grew extremely fascinated with her and her species. She felt less weird about being a rare species in a mostly-human planet.
