Personal History

Thomas Brewer, a name chosen for him by the Federation Orphan Society, was found by the USS Ranger near the Badlands in a badly damaged cargo freighter. He was the only survivor. The freighter was unregistered and no flight plan had been filed that could be matched to her on any planet in any neighboring sector.

As with Federation policy Thomas was placed in an FOS Orphanage on Bajor as it was the closest Federation world to where he was found. The orphanage was administered by a sect of Bajoran Monks who were encouraged studies in the Natural Sciences as well as religious training. Thomas was given leave when it came to most religious areas of study and during those classes was allowed and even instructed on his Human heritage as far as Human customs, and history.

The Bajoran Monks introduced Thomas to geology through working in the gardens on the grounds and by exploring nearby cave networks. He immediately took to collecting any rock sample he thought to be unique and stuffing his pockets full while working outside on the grounds only to spend late nights glaring at them through the lens of microscopes. When he wasn't looking down late at night into the grooves and crevices of stones he was staring skyward at the heavens and the millions and billions of glimmering and blinking lights.

Sometime in his thirteenth year on one of his class's field trips to Deep Space Nine's many Science Labs Thomas made the decision that he wanted to be an explorer and scientist in the ranks of Star Fleet. The Monks immediately set about adjusting their curriculum to include the preparatory studies Thomas would need to earn his acceptance into Star Fleet Academy.

Thomas's love of science, geology and general exploration weren't the only driving forces behind his decision to make his career in Star Fleet. Thomas for all intents and purposes has spent his life without family- without truly knowing where he had come from. Sure, the Monks had been Mother and Father and his peers at the FOS had been his friends but his real family, or their history, was out there somewhere and he had a drive deep inside to find it.

Were his parent's on the unregistered freighter? If they were, or for that matter if they weren't, then why? Why was the ship unregistered to begin with? Where was it headed? Those questions simply brushed the boundless questions he had about his past. He could fill volumes with nothing but questions about who he was and where he came from and the only way he knew he would ever find at least some of the answers would be to get out there. He would have to travel the stars and what better way to do that then in Star Fleet.

Thomas seemed to fit at the Academy after gaining admittance. He excelled in his classes and socially despite his generally quite demeanor. His peers found him not the strong silent type rather quiet and thoughtful. Although he fit in he still couldn't get away from wondering about his past. During his time on Earth his DNA could not be matched to any Citizen on file in current of past Federation records.

After graduating third in his class the new Midshipman Brewer was posted to the USS Ticonderoga under the command of then Rear Admiral Daher. While on the Ticonderoga Tommy served in the campaign to retake Space Station Sierra 18. His service on the Ticonderoga lasted from stardate 20905.13 to stardate 20910.20. Although he was starting to really have a sense of fitting in and he was happy with his posting fate had other plans in mind for Mr. Brewer.

On Stardate 20910.20 Tommy received orders he was being transferred rather unceremoniously to the USS Dauntless. After three days of travel on a Star Fleet transport Tommy reported for duty on to the First Officer of the Dauntless on Stardate 20910.23.
