Personal History

Born to a pair of scientists, Mika was always immersed in the scientific fields growing up. During her early teenage years, she began to slightly rebel against her parents and tried to forge her own path, as she started to believe her parents were trying to control every aspect of her life.

Despite her initial enjoyment of the scientific fields, there were times that Mika wondered if she liked it because she chosen to do so, or rather if her parents had simply forced it upon her. She’d also wondered if her being more of ‘science geek’ was hindering herself socially. The fact that it happened during her mid-teenage years didn’t slow her trying to sneak out at night, trying to hang out with the more popular kids her age.

A bit of underage drinking wasn’t doing her any favors in the short term either, especially as Mika learned she couldn’t handle much liquor and would often wake up with heavy hangover-induced migraines. Nor did it help when she found out that her parents knew all about it, and hadn’t even tried to stop her. According to them, they were just allowing Mika to get out of her system, so that their plans for her career wouldn’t be jeopardized when she was on her own.

Mika still wasn’t sure whether or not being a scientist was what she wanted herself. That being said, she was tired of feeling like the lab rat in her parent’s experiment. Being a scientist seemed to be her future, however one thing she knew was that it wasn’t going to be on her parents’ terms, but hers. They expected her to operate out of their lab on Earth, which Mika saw as limiting. After months of searching, she believed she found a path that would both allow her to be a scientist in the unknown, and even better yet, stick it to her parents one more time.

The path Mika found was entering Starfleet. With a renewed sense of exploration, Starfleet seemed like the best path to scientific curiosity and intrigue. Unfortunately her parents were completely against the idea, as they believed Starfleet was nothing more than a military and that its scientific fields wouldn’t be enough for Mika. Despite their objections, Mika opted to enter the service. Feeling betrayed by their daughter, Mika was cut off.

Feeling momentarily hurt, Mika looked forward towards the opportunity that her future career would present. The first step was getting through the necessary time at the Academy. For the most part, it felt like nothing more than a higher paced form of schooling. Mika only struggled in the basic departmental cross-training classes, while breezing through her science courses. Despite her struggles, Mika managed to just barely pass so that she would be eligible for graduation.

With the dawn of being given an actual assignment, Mika couldn’t help but be pumped for where she might end up. While she’d prefer to be assigned to one of the various deep-space vessels, she wouldn’t say no to somewhere that had a nicely stocked lab. Despite her wishes, her instructors did tell her to keep her expectations tempered whenever her orders were drafted.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Losing her parents. While she understands their hatred of the military, she never expected them to cut off all ties.
Best Time: Spending hours upon hours inside the lab.
Most Crucial Experience: Pursuing her own aspects for her career. Maybe she’d have had a happier family life in a world without her joining Starfleet, but she knows she’d regret it.
Role Model: Starfleet Officer D’Vana Tendi. The fact that someone could go from a life of being an Orion Pirate to a successful scientist is something Mika can respect. She even respects that Tendi’s Orion family never cut her off for her career aspects.
