Biobed
Beds used to monitor vital functions in patients. They are the standard diagnostic equipment in Sickbay, used for examinations, surgeries and other medical procedures.
Biobeds can also be modified into stasis units, where patients can be kept in suspended animation if they are too critically injured to survive during a crisis or the crew is unable to properly care for them. The patient can be revived when the crisis is resolved or more suitable help is available.
Specialized biobeds are used in intensive care for patients recovering from surgery, critical injury or life threatening illness. The patient’s status is typically displayed on a monitor at the head of the unit,
Surgical biobeds are typically monitored by a large sensor cluster and have ports for surgical attachments. Readings are displayed on a large monitor adjacent to the bed.
