Advanced computer technology that uses synthetic neural cells for data processing, which replaced isolinear circuitry. Bio-neural circuitry can organize and process complex information faster and more efficiently, thus speeding up computer response time. This type of circuitry manages information much the same way a human brain does, by using ‘fuzzy logic’ to make best guess answers to complex questions, rather than working through a series of possible solutions.

The USS Voyager was one of the first Star Fleet vessels equipped with bio-neural systems.

Like a living organism, bio-neural circuitry can be affected by viruses and infections. They are also susceptible to subnucleonic radiation, which causes them to fail. This affects the efficiency and performance of the computer. In such cases, Engineering and Medical must work together to diagnose the problem. The most common course of action is to superheat the vessel, and thus the circuitry, which will kill any bacteria or germs that have infected the systems.
