Bio-mimetic gel is a liquid substance, used in the study of genetics, and is highly regulated by Federation law.
Sale of this substance is forbidden, and can be hazardous if not transported correctly. Its applications include:
- creation of biogenic weapons
- creation of organic explosives
- illegal genetic experiments
- illegal cloning experiments
Even attempting to obtain the substance is a felony in the Federation.
Due to its restricted nature, bio-mimetic gel is rare and valuable, and cargo ships have been hijacked for it.
Some deep-space starbase sickbays had a limited stock of bio-mimetic gel to be used strictly for medical purposes, with the proper container being the Starfleet standard issue container "L647X7."
