Benzar

Benzar is an inhabited M-class planet in the Benzite system, located in the Alpha Quadrant.

The homeworld of the Benzite people, it is also considered a significant member of the United Federation of Planets. Benzar's atmosphere differed somewhat from Class-M norms, and before the 2370s, Benzites who were off-world required a breathing apparatus. The planet's atmosphere contains a number of rare gases, which are inert to all other humanoid life forms, but essential for the Benzites. Later technology allowed for other means of medical intervention, though some Benzites preferred the traditional breathing machine.

During the Dominion War, Benzar fell to Dominion and Cardassian forces by 2374.
However, the planet was liberated by the Romulan Star Empire later the same year, after the Romulans joined the war on the side of the Allies.
