The Axanar are an androgynous, humanoid, Beta Quadrant species with an average life span of 400 years. They are native to the planet Axanar.
The Axanar body produces triglobulin from a "zymuth gland."
This substance has medical and aphrodisiac properties, and is used by a number of different species for those purposes.
Some even forcefully 'harvest' Axanar for their triglobulin.
The Axanar apparently prefer a nitrogen-methane atmosphere.
In 2151, the Axanar made first contact with Humans, after an unnamed species attacked an Axanar cargo ship. The Enterprise, NX-01 investigated, finding that the Axanar victims had been brutally murdered. Unfortunately, when the Axanar came to the scene, they accused the Enterprise of the crimes that had been committed. It was only after an individual crew member was able to act as translator that the truth was revealed, and the two were ale to work together to find the real attackers.
By the mid-23rd century, a military conflict broke out at the Axanar homeworld between the Axanars and the United Federation of Planets in what is now known as the Battle of Axanar.
James T. Kirk later participated in a peace mission at Axanar during the 2250s.
