Australia is an island-continent and country on Earth. Indigenous inhabitants of the continent were known as Australian Aborigines.

The continent includes mainland Australia, Tasmania, and the island of New Guinea, among many other islands. The Australian continent is the smallest, lowest, flattest, and second-driest continent on Earth, after Antarctica. Its size gives it a wide variety of landscapes and climates, with deserts in the center, tropical rainforests in the north-east, and mountain ranges in the south-east. The desert or semi-arid land commonly known as "the outback" makes up by far the largest portion of land.

Earth Starfleet officers were known to have survival training in the "outback" area of Australia.
This was a prime location for young officers to learn to survival training, and sustain themselves off of such things as drinking recycled sweat, and eating snake meat.

Well-known animals of Australia include the koala, the kangaroo, and the platypus.

Notable Areas:

  • The Great Barrier Reef, the Earth's largest coral reef, lies off the north-east coast, and extends for over 2,000 km (1,200 mi).
  • Sydney Opera House, famous art venue, located on the south-east shoreline.

Fun Facts:

  • In 2032, Australia took part in the Ares IV mission.
  • Benjamin Sisko's mother was killed in a hovercraft accident in Australia while working as a holophotographer in 2336.
