Personal History
Born and raised as a fundamental Catholic, of which few exist these days, his father only just stayed in the priest hood after it was revealed he had a child due to the lack of people willing to conform into the catholic priesthood in these modern times. He had never been keen on the Catholic ideas so as soon as he was old enough he ran away from his home and the religion and bought his own flat in Jamaica.
He witnessed a crash of two shuttles and acted immediately giving first aid to those wounded saving four out of five of the wounded. Guilt overwhelmed him as the death was actually caused by him trying to help (details of this have been classified by authorities). Artz joined medical school knowing the way to clear his conscience would be by saving other lives. It was here he met his wife and in their third year they got married.
After graduating with honours he was sent to a dilitheum mine which was attacked by Borg. His wife was assimilated so he was forced to kill her to save her from the life of a Borg. Artz and a handful of others, including a Star Fleet officer called Jacques Thénardier blockaded themselves into a store room. Star Fleet arrived and saved the remaining colonists and Artz requested to be allowed to serve with Star Fleet as a guest doctor. He is very unsure of himself and guilt still plays on his mind over every patient he could not save, this guilt makes him detached from people, generally snappy, obnoxious and aggressive.
