The Arkonians are a reptilian humanoid species native to the Beta Quadrant.

Arkonians do not have sweat glands, and their bodies' hydration system is not based on water.
Instead they drink a brown liquid that they call "taratt-aash". Their saliva has healing properties, as it can quickly repair skin abrasions.

Their cellular structure is not capable of handling rapid temperature changes.

In the early-2050s, the Arkonians achieved warp capability. The Vulcans soon made first contact with them, but it was not successful.
The Arkonians were suspicious of and deceitful to the Vulcans, and relations between the two people continued to be rock for more than a century afterwards. Arkonian destroyer Captains were wary of any ship that had even a single Vulcan on it.

In 2152, the Arkonians made first contact with Humans, by way of communications with the vessel Enterprise, NX-01. While an Arkonian vessel was patrolling their territory, they sent a shuttle to investigate an errant shuttlepod from the Enterprise. When both vessels crashed on a neighboring planet, the two species worked together in order to rescue their missing crewmembers.

• T'Pol noted that the crew of the Enterprise established better relations with the Arkonians in a single day than the Vulcans had in a century.
