Personal History

Growing up on Mars during the early colony years was difficult at times, but Chase always loved the unique opportunities he had. Both of his parents being engineers, he was always hearing things at the dinner table about terraforming projects as well as the new and exciting starships being designed and constructed at the Utopia Planitia starship yards. Throughout his childhood he had taken apart and reconstructed every mechanism in their living quarters--twice.

The decision to leave the colony and join Starfleet Academy was mostly influenced by his father Marc. Chase wanted desperately to stay and keep learning from his parents and the other engineers at the Colony, but his father convinced him to get a "proper education" at the Academy on Earth.

Going to Earth caused Chase some anxiety, as his family rarely traveled back to their home planet, and Chase never knew any other home than Utopia Planitia. He enjoyed the classes he was able to take at the Academy and the resources he could tinker with, but he didn't feel at home... he always felt like the gravity was too constricting and the sky a little too blue and depressing.

Chase had always planned to come back to his Martian homeworld after graduation, but his exposure to warp theory had sparked an interest to serve on one of the new NX-class starships being constructed. He majored in Warp Field Theory at the academy, but took a couple years off after graduation to go back home and help out with his new expertise. His friends and family back at the colony were happy to have him help out and give some of their systems a few upgrades, but they all saw his desire for more and eventually he finished his short leave to go serve in Starfleet.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Warp Field Theory, Systems Engineering
Academy Minor(s): Chemistry, Physics
Hobbies and Pastimes: Tinkering takes up most of his time, but he also likes watching Rugby games on Earth.
Short-Term Goals: To become the Chief Engineer on a new NX-Class Starship.
Long-Term Goals: To help design the next generation of warp engines and test them out.
Personality: Chase is very much a loner, but has a good sense of humor in social gatherings. He can only stand to be in large gatherings for so long before getting the itch to get back in his lab.
Sense of Humor: Playful, somewhat aloof
Phobias: Large crowds of people
Likes: Rugby, early 21st century movies, fried foods
Dislikes: Wide open spaces or large crowds of people, too much small talk or shallow conversation.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who make assumptions about the Utopia Planitia Colony.
Bad Habits or Vices: Chase can go for long periods of time without eating, sleeping, or social contact if left to his own devices.
Achievements: One of the top of his class at the Academy in Warp Field Theory, made several systems upgrades to the NX-class power distribution systems as part of his Senior Project.
Disappointments: Having to leave his friends behind on Mars.
Illnesses: Chase is prone to illness when in contact with Humans from Earth, since he did not grow up exposed to the same level of contaminants on the colony.
Strengths: Resilient, used to working in tough conditions.
Weaknesses: Chase gets easily impatient with people and doesn't always work well on a team.
Fears: Something catastrophic will happen to the small Mars Colony he calls home.
Prejudices: Chase tends not to trust other humans (from Earth) as much, because he has a hard time identifying with their experiences.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Baggy workclothes stained from tinkering projects.
Distinguishing Features: Chase looks like an engineer who could be from Earth's Industrial Era. His hands are rough from mechanical tinkering and he inevitably has dirt/grease on him from working on some project almost non-stop. He cleans up nicely, but rarely does.
Pets: None
Friends: Chase didn't have many friends in the Martian Colony city of Utopia Planitia, but those he did have got into many interesting hijinks in the colony. There weren't too many children during the early years, but as Chase worked for a couple years out Starfleet Academy he saw more of them increase. He formed a few friendships at the Academy, but spent most of his time tinkering in labs alone.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: One of the members of his colony got stuck outside the colony during a mission and died from exposure to Mars' thin atmosphere and the UV rays. The whole colony felt the impact of the accident very strongly.
Best Time: Exploring the colony with his friends with very little supervision or rules.
Most Crucial Experience: Chase's time at Starfleet Academy and the support he got from his father to continue his studies even when he missed Utopia Planitia.
Role Model: Chase strongly admires his father Marc.
