Personal History

Morad came from a big family. As the older brother and first born, he always felt responsible for his siblings, and assisted his parents as much as he could. Growing up with that level of pressure effected the way he carried himself and his goals in life. As per tradition, he always placed his family’s wellbeing first in any decision he made.

At a young age, Morad showed great interest in physics and how things work. His teachers nurtured this interest and guided him to explore it further. His father, a proud mechanic who owned a respectable vehicle repair shop in Damascus, also encouraged his son to pick up the trade. At the time, the goal was to assist at the shop and to one day takeover the family business.

The interest grew into an obsession when his grandparents – of whom he was close- perished in a preventable shuttlecraft accident. The ensuing investigation revealed that mechanical failure that caused the accident was the result of a maintenance oversight.

During the grieving period, Morad immersed himself in a project he had started with his late grandfather the previous year. It involved the restoration of an old crop duster airplane that belonged to an ancestor and remained in the family estate for generations. Ameen did his research and was able to find its blueprint, using this find he was able to replicate new parts and specific tools that he needed for this project. His biggest challenge in the end was the power. The ancient engine used the now outdated fossil fuel. Getting his hand on enough quantity to fill the gas tank was quite the achievement in itself. But in the end the plane was flight worthy.

Having already attended flying lessons as part of his education regiment. Morad flew simulation on this type of plane until he felt adequately able to fly it safely. When the time came to roll her out of the barn and fire up the engine, his entire family was watching. Alas, shortly after takeoff and circling a few laps over the village, Star Fleet security officers' vehicles showed up and trapped the plane in a tractor beam and land her safely. Morad’s father had to pay a fine for breaking the local traffic laws and for operating a fossil fuel engine. But in the end, everyone agreed that the experience was worth it.

However, the event did not go unnoticed by the powers that be. Soon after that flight, LCdr Omar from the local Star Fleet recruitment office showed up at the Ameen’s front door, and handed the young man an invitation to visit the center and explore the possibility of applying for Star Fleet academy. His father dismissed the idea, while his mother kept the documents aside. Later that year, after graduating from high school. Omar met with Morad and once again invited him to visit the recruitment center. Ameen decided to give it a shot and he was quite impressed with what he saw. But he knew it will take a lot to convince his father to let him go.

As time passed by, Omar met with Morad more regularly and eventually the young man felt he wanted to do more than to stay in the city and work in his father’s shop. With the encouragement of his mother, and despite some reluctance from his father, Ameen applied to Star Fleet and was accepted in the academy’s Engineering track.

A few classes into his academy days, Ameen’s academic excellence helped soften his father’s disapproval, and eventually turned it into pride in his son’s accomplishments. With his younger brother taking over the shop and his sisters all settled down and doing well, he was free to make his own way. And so, off he was, to the stars. Or so he thought... Professional Career

Ameen was posted in the solar system most of his professional life. His specialty was uncommon, combined with his talent meant that Star Fleet kept him close to HQ working on cutting edge projects that was driving the sensor technology forward. Ameen didn’t mind at first. He was close to his family, and this allowed him to keep in touch with his parents and visit his many nieces and nephews. But the itch to get out there and explore remained strong.

An opportunity came knocking after the Kraynar war had ended and Star Fleet declared a new directive: the tangible focus on exploration, Morad saw this as a defining moment in his career. He submitted a request for a transfer to one of the ships assigned to the Expeditionary Operations at Pioneer Outpost.

His transfer was approved. And he was picked up by Captain Gabriel Archer of the USS Intrepid. Aboard the heavy cruiser, working as part of Lt Landry’s inner circle, he was the Engineer in charge of the sensor systems. The ship was old and have seen a lot of action, she had fought in most of the famous battles that he studied in the recent wars. He was told that she even traveled back in time once to save Planet Earth! Yet, he felt that she was overdue for a proper refit and her sensors needed to be upgraded to match the new ship classes that were coming out of the design pipe of Star Fleet. But just like his family’s antic crop duster airplane, he was fond of old things.

He saw his first action during the confrontation with a Cardassian ship on the way to Pioneer. His own charge did not have much to do in the situation, none the less, he found the entire thing to be very interesting. He wanted more of the same.

Alas, he did not get a chance to work on the Intrepid for long, as soon after she brought her crew to Pioneer, the ship was called back to earth to be mothballed and put in storage. Like the Intrepid’s CO, FO and the majority of her crew, Morad found himself posted to Pioneer Outpost. In his case, he was listed as “Pending reassignment.” In the meantime, the engineer spent his time patiently assisting in the continuing effort to complete the station’s construction.

All he could do was wait to see where his next adventure will be.
