"Life still has to be lived." - Thomas Allen.

Personal History

Stacie was born at Allegheny Regional Hospital near Pittsburgh on Stardate 18411.05. The only child of Linda and Thomas Allen, who had tried unsuccessfully for years to have a child, was doted over during her formative years. The couple made it their mission to expose their daughter to the wonders of the world around her. There were trips to the Moon to see the sunrise and vacations to the orbital cities around Neptune and Jupiter. They went on hiking trips down the Appalachian Trail. Once her parents even took her to see a Star Jelly near the colony of New Dover. On that particular trip an Andorian child infected several other children with shingles. It was just after that experience that Stacie took an interest in biology.

Mr. Allen saw the spark in Stacie's eyes as she began to learn about cellular membranes, DNA, RNA and the other things that made creatures different at the tiniest of levels. From then on her parents began to quietly steer her interests when they could toward the study of biology. Her mother tutored her in math and science whenever the chance arose and in the evenings while her father painted landscapes and breathtaking vistas Stacie would water color something to reflect what she learned that day. Maybe it would look like the Rigelian Blood Cell in the end that's she'd studied under a microscope and then again maybe it wouldn't but painting was something she and her father enjoyed doing together so it didn't really matter.

High school, at least the academic part anyway, was a breeze for a girl with two tutors living at home. The social aspect was just as trying for her though as with any other adolescent. Trying to fit in, and usually succeeding, there were still bumps and bruises along the way. There were boyfriends but no one she was ever really serious about. As far as other extracurricular activities went Stacie was a member of the varsity swim team and played softball. She loved both sports and was fairly good at them. She would go on to swim and play ball for the Academy after graduation from high school.

At the Academy the 17 year old quickly settled in and luckily hit it off with her dorm mates; something she was apprehensive about going into the process. She'd never known the joys of communal or dorm living and Stacie couldn't help but have some small fear about not being able to get along with the people she simply had no other choice but to live with. Scholastically things were much harder than in high school and Stacie found herself the first year there spending almost every other night either with a tutor or in a study group but that would level out entering her Sophomore year.

During that second year Stacie met James, or Jim as everyone called him. Jim was from a little town outside of Dallas and used his Texas charm to quickly find a way into Stacie's heart. Their first date was horseback riding. Jim was experienced but Stacie had never been on a horse before. The night ended rather rough with Jim feeling very bad watching an Academy doctor mend Stacie's collarbone. It was a night they'd laugh about for almost the next two years. Stacie and Jim moved on from one another three months before graduation but the two were able to walk away with no hard feelings and to this day are best friends. Jim is now a full Lieutenant and stationed on the Constellation as a Security Officer.

Stacie graduated the Academy with an undergraduate degree with honors and spent the following six months in the Research Department on an outpost near Hadron VI. During her time there the hardworking researcher found herself in the middle of a disaster area when one of the micro-fusion generators on the station overloaded taking out half the installation and leaving countless wounded and what was left of the outpost. With triage training Stacie threw herself into doing what she could to help out the overwhelmed remnants of the medical staff. It was the most harrowing experiences of her life and one of the most defining. Two weeks after the event Stacie applied to take the SFA-MCAT (Medical School Admission Test) and much to her elation she was accepted.

Unlike the first year of her time at the Academy Stacie found it easier to cope with the Academics at Med school. There wasn't much time for a social life though but she squeezed in what fun she could when it presented itself. Throwing herself into the classes Stacie worked eagerly through one course after another and when the second year wrapped up Stacie began her clinical rotations around Sol.

One year into rotations Stacie fell for a Resident Doctor in the hospital at Utopia Planetia. It was the first time since Jim that anyone had caught her eye and the two months there were hard to leave behind but when it was time to move on she chose the career goals in her mind over the man quickly winning her heart. He understood but Stacie knew she'd broken his heart and that hurt her more than he knew. There were nights for months after that she wondered what life would have been like if she'd set her professional ambitions aside and signed up for a research position somewhere on Mars and kept things moving along with Kaleb. Eventually though her mind moved on and part of her decided to guard itself a little more closely from allowing infatuation to take such a strong hold in the future unless it was what she really knew she wanted.

At the end of her fourth year of Medical School Stacie applied to the Surgical Department of Star Fleet Medical for training in general surgery and residency and was accepted based on her scholastic performance and the 'spark' one of the board of directors of the department saw in Stacie's eyes during one of the candidate interviews. It was a vote of confidence that proved to ring true in the four years that followed. Stacie went on to become second to the Chief of Residents in the Surgical Department at the Academy Hospital and became one of the youngest surgeons to ever graduate the program.

New orders came through two weeks later to her parents home in Pennsylvania where she had gone to relax as she had when time permitted through out all 12 years in various schools at the Academy. The orders officially transferred her to the USS Philadelphia. A ship assignment had always been what she'd hoped for and when it finally came Stacie packed as fast as she ever had and was on the next shuttle out after a lengthy and somewhat tearful goodbye with her parents who were by then in their mid-60's.

A week out of port on her new assignment tragedy struck. Stacie received a personal communique from home that sent her entire world reeling. Her Mother, a beacon in her life, had passed unexpectedly. Linda Allen had fallen from one of the high terraces at a nearby park where she enjoyed walking every morning. Park cameras had recorded the unfortunate accident. Mrs. Allen had leaned over a railing to view several flowering vines. Her grip slipped on the wet metal construct and over she went.

Stacie's new Captain quickly approved her request for Leave and before her head could stop spinning from the news Stacie was back in Pittsburg with her Father attending the funeral part of her had always denied would ever come. Starfleet and the Captain of the Philly were generous with the time away they had allotted her but when she received word that the Philly was due to wrap up her assignment in the coming weeks the last thing Stacie felt ready to do was leave her Father, alone. Her parents had each devoted their lives to her, and now, with her mother gone, it seemed only fair Stacie return that devotion even more than she had in the past and stay on Earth with all she had left of her family.

Mr. Allen would have none of it though even as he hated the notion of his only daughter shipping off. He was quick to remind her of her dreams. Her ambitions. Quick to point out the debt in duty she owed Starfleet and the Federation for her education and career. By the time the Shuttle arrived to ferry her to SBA and the transport that was warping out to SBD– Stacie was ready thanks to his encouragements.
