Personal History
Aldren was born on Angosia III. He was raised in a small enclave near the capital, by his parents. His father Aldric, had once been a member of the Angosian Military. Serving alongside the now Prime Minister Roga Danar, and fighting with him during the Tarsian War.
Following the coup and subsequent change of planetary leadership by Danar, Aldric had returned from his enforced exile on Lunar V and settled to raise a family on his home world. Aldren’s mother, Aetha, died during a shuttle accident when he was only nine years of age. The death of his mother affected his father, who unable to cope with the loss of his wife became an alcoholic. Over the next few years, Aldric neglected his son and became an introvert. His grief compelled him to drink, which in turn fed his grief. Aldric spent the last few years of his life haunted by the memories of the War, and his treatment afterwards by the people of Angosia, who had banished all soldiers to Lunar V. On Aldren’s 15th birthday, his father walked out of the family home and never returned, presumed to have gone off-world and no contact was ever heard from him again, leaving Aldren to gather his meager possessions and head to the Capital. There he lived for two years on the streets of the metropolis. Finding work where he could. Upon reaching 17, he enrolled in the radically changed Angosian Military.
The following years were a blur for Aldren, as he learned to become a Soldier. He gained numerous skills, excelling in the Angosian form of martial arts, Tellis. At the age of 20, Aldren left voluntarily and chose instead to join the Angosian Police Force. Here, he discovered that he had found his calling. He was partnered with an Angosian female called Rutha, who became his best friend. Both shared similar interests and despite the constant rumours floating around the station house that they were romantically involved, their friendship remained plutonic. His Sergeant was a woman named Hillia, who guided Aldren through his early Policing career. He grew very fond of her and strived to emulate her. Although the majority of the Angosian Society was peaceful and preferred to concentrate on intellectual development there was always a small percentage who preferred to take what others had. Aldren received commendations for his Policing work. Three weeks before his 22nd birthday, Aldren was involved in incident with his patrol partner, Rutha. An unremarkable traffic stop spiraled into a firefight, resulting in Rutha being shot and killed and Aldren being injured. The assailant, who had been one of the few remaining genetic soldiers, had previously stolen the craft, and upon being stopped by Aldren and Rutha’s patrol vehicle, had opened fire upon them both. Leaving Rutha dead and Aldren lying near to death, he had fled into the night.
Upon his following recovery, disillusioned with his work, Aldren resigned his commission and instead found himself standing outside the Star Fleet recruitment building. He knew that the influx of Angosian people joining Star Fleet had risen since the now infamous Horza Aldran had first applied and joined Star Fleet. Aldren pushed through the doors with his mindset, and left his home world shortly afterwards.
Aldren joined Sierra-18 following graduation and served onboard under his direct supervisor, Commander Read. He learnt a great deal from his CoS and whilst there became friends with Eden Mitra. The two became close, although due to their work neither wished to become romantically involved. An incident that occurred during his time at the Academy came to light and Aldren was moved off station and posted to the USS James Madison. He arrived at the ship under a cloud and tried to concentrate upon his work. Whilst there he received two field promotions and although still haunted by his past, tried looking to the future. Whilst on shore-leave on Delta, a chance encounter with a disgraced ex-Star Fleet Officer, Horza Aldran, jogged his memory to the date where Rutha was killed. It transpired that Horza Aldran, who was currently AWOL from Star Fleet, had in fact murdered Aldren’s friend. A tense standoff ensued, where Aldren wanted to kill Horza. He was stopped only by Sierra Dawson (a fellow crewmember on the Madison). At the moment where Aldren had it in his power to avenge his old friend, the words of Dawson struck home and he then tried to save the life of the man he had dreamt of killing for so long. Horza Aldran fell to his death despite the efforts to save him and Aldren felt a dark chapter in his life had ended.
Following his return to the Madison, Aldren felt changed within himself. At times the old brooding, self-loathing returned, but on a whole, he realised that his life was not as bleak as he had thought for so long. During this time and in the tradition of his Angosian Clan, he decided to partake in the Naming. This was a tradition within his Clan where at the point they were ready—this could be anything from reaching an age or having a cathartic moment—they chose a forename. Wanting to keep within the traditions of his Clan, Aldren changed his name to Korban-Edric Aldren. From that point on, he would be referred to as Korban Aldren, using his middle name of Edric only for ceremonial occasions.
Aldren was later promoted to Chief of Security aboard the Avenger and relished every moment. Using the skills and techniques taught him by his predecessors, he quickly became popular with his staff. Leaving the Madison had been a pull for him, leaving in particular a certain Marine called Sierra Dawson of whom he had grown very fond. Aldren performed well in his duties, and was involved in many confrontations with the Krynar. However, whilst travelling in a runabout, heading to a nearby moon for some R & R with four other crewmembers, the runabout came under attack by the Krynar and Aldren was left fighting for his life in a crippled ship. The other crew all perished. He was later picked up by a passing freighter—which had detected the emergency beacon—and spent the next few years back on Earth in Hospital. Aldren recovered slowly from his wounds, and refused to admit any visitors. The physical injuries healed, his own guilt at being the sole survivor did not, and following his discharge, he was referred to the Psychiatric teams who spent 18 months monitoring and working with him. He was discharged under medical grounds from Star Fleet; however, upon receiving the ‘all-clear,’ he re-enlisted, having to start back as a cadet.
