Personal History

Childhood to Adolescent

Aklara is the middle child of her set of birth parents who decided to stop reproducing after 3 children. She is the only girl yet is the tallest of her siblings. Her overall family consists of 249 sibling relationships – her mother is married to 3 men (including her father) and her father is married to 3 women and 1 man. None of the parental family members have less than 3 pairings, though one ambitious man had 7 partners (2 have passed). Large gatherings are common on Denobula with high population density. Meals in her house were made to serve 100 people – if you weren’t one of the first 100 people at this table, you would head to the next. Some people loved cooking – such as her mother. Some of Aklara’s best memories of time spent alone with her mother were spent cooking these giant, delicious meals. She gained her mother’s great sense of accomplishment from making a new recipe or hearing people compliment her food.

Adulthood

Like most Denobulans, Aklara showed an aptitude for learning and a nearly unquenchable curiosity. After reaching the age where one usually left home to explore and study, she and Cren began planet hopping and studying many of the logical fields first - earning degrees in the sciences: medical, biology, chemistry – then moved on to engineering, diplomacy, legal procedures, and warp theory. Though she didn’t have serious interest in biomechanical and artificial intelligence, her best friend Cren did, so she studied that too. Then they mutually decided to get serious and began studying the creative arts on Earth: for 14 years they painted, mastered new instruments and Cren created beautiful sculptures while she joined a stage theater troop.

Starfleet Academy

Desiring another new experience, and hearing so many people through the years speak about Star Fleet Academy, Aklara and Cren decided to join, even knowing they would eventually be separated for however long their assignments lasted. Thankfully, the Academy was used to Denobulan curiosity and drive so their extended time to graduate was not considered strange for them – she spent 10 years in the Academy, completing training in Engineering, Medical, and linguistics. She thought she would finish there, however, during her final 2 years she joined the Velocity team after prodding from Lieutenant Slaymaker, her Academy firearms instructor. She proved quite a pro at the game – and at the end of her science program she was approached to be team Captain the following year. Simultaneously, Cren pointed out that she wasn’t just good with a hand phaser but had excelled at all types of weaponry – from phaser rifles to ordinance setting and disposal to ship targeting. Of course, Cren was also interested in gaining a fourth concentration himself: starship design. So they stayed for another two years and she earned her tactical completion. When they finally graduated, they were asked to rank the departments they had qualified for in preference order – with no guarantees of their eventual placement. She surprised herself by choosing tactical as her first preference – and StarFleet surprised her when they granted her a tactical position. Due to the knowledge and life experience she was bringing to the role, she was granted the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade upon graduation. When she discovered she was posted to the Fleet flagship for scientific exploration, the Copernicus, – she couldn’t imagine anywhere she would be happier to serve as a tactical officer – there would be so much to do in her excessive amounts of off-duty time…assuming she could convince their CSO and CMO to let her meddle in their areas.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Weapons Systems, Warp Theory, Triage and Emergency Medical Procedures, Xenolinguistics, Diplomacy
Academy Minor(s): Strategic operations, Fabrication, Combat piloting, Biology
Hobbies and Pastimes: Cooking, reading breakthrough articles on whatever subject interests her that day, theater, being social
Short-Term Goals: To excel in Star Fleet and put into practice many of the things she had studying but never used; to learn to live far from Cren; to make new friends; to meet and marry her first spouse
Long-Term Goals: To have a large family – she thinks it’d be ideal to have 4 spouses – 2 male and 2 female. To write a play.
Personality: Like most Denobulans, Aklara is very patient and optimistic/positive. She is warm and welcoming, sometimes coming off as clingy or needy to friends.
Sense of Humor: Though not particularly humorous herself, Aklara enjoys surrounding herself with humorous people and could often be found in the ‘comedy clubs’ on Earth. She loves to laugh and will indulge in the opportunity whenever possible – even laughing at jokes that aren’t funny simply to enjoy the act of laughing.
Phobias: Being alone. She felt rather lonely with only one roommate at the Academy, and when she was gone on trips, Aklara would often spend her time in a friend’s room or apartment and rarely moved from the couches in the common rooms.
Likes: social activities, holodecks, reading, games
Dislikes: people motivated by negative desires: greed, causing pain, passing judgment on species, etc
Pet Peeves or Gripes: pessimists or people that are constantly negative, gossipers
Bad Habits or Vices: Enunciates each word, speaking at a slightly slower pace than most people – barely noticeable, until you notice it, and then almost impossible to ignore. Oddly, this habit disappears when she is acting on a stage or speaking in front of a group.
Achievements: Multiple degrees including Doctorates and Master level degrees. Certified Federation-wide as a mediator for dispute resolution. Acting in her 50th stage play – her troop threw her quite a party.
Disappointments: Failing to write a successful play
Illnesses: None.
Strengths: Knowledge spanning many disciplines
Weaknesses: Can get deep into a new field if it intrigues her. Tends to move rapidly from one interest to another.
Fears: flying bugs and insects – Aklara flunked survival training twice before passing due to extreme reactions around flying insects
Prejudices: None
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Colorful, free flowing garments
Distinguishing Features: Characteristics of a Denobulan (facial ridges, etc) Appears to be in her mid-30's
Pets: She experimented with a pet dog while living on Earth – she understood the draw to the animal and felt sadness at the loss when it passed. Perhaps once settled with a family she might experiment with pets once again.
Friends: Cren, a boy born around the same time as her in their family group. They were interested in similar things and arranged their educational pursuits to coincide with each other to remain close through the years. They both joined Star Fleet even knowing it would separate them farther than they ever had been before.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Nothing really painful – perhaps the loss of her pet dog, Sugar
Best Time: Achieving the completion of each of her study programs.
Most Crucial Experience: When Cren and she decided to go on their educational journey together. To have someone there when they ventured into the world helped her stay positive and focused.
Role Model: Her mother who cooks like she lives – with warmth and an open heart.
