Active-Scan Navigation
Navigation technique used when conventional passive sensors cannot be used, and can also be used for communication or the detection of other vessels. Active-scan navigation works by echolocation, whereby a modulated tetryon pulse is transmitted so that there is a reflection off an object (such as another starship). To measure the distance to this object, the time from the transmission of a pulse to reception is measured and converted into a range by knowing the speed that a tetryon pulse travels through space.
A ship that is being scanned by active-scan may launch active countermeasures by aiming additional tetryon beams at the receiving ship, or by providing a large false target. The emission of active-scan pulses by a stealth ship can also compromise that vessel.
