Personal History

Conrad was born feet-first on Star Base 1 while Laoise was accompanying Emmerich to oversee the refitting of an older ship. He spent the first decade of his life traveling with his parents from Starbase to Starbase, planet to planet and ship to ship, while his father diligently worked for Star Fleet's Corps of Engineers on the research and study of new starship designs. His mother, meanwhile, usually held positions as a teacher for the children wherever they were stationed at the time. She taught Conrad during this time as well.

When Conrad was 12 years old, his father was promoted within Star Fleet and assigned to work in Star Fleet Command on Earth. That same year, his mother gave birth to the Abendroth’s second child, Áine, named after Conrad's great grandmother on his mother's side. Conrad's mother continued to school him right up until his 20th birthday. He spend the following year deciding what to do with the rest of his life and, at first, was not even considering a career in Star Fleet but rather in the private sector. In the end it was a conversation with his father, in which Emmerich used many words like duty, honor, respect and adventure, which convinced him to enlist in Star Fleet and apply to the Academy.

The four years that followed were met with much success. Conrad even opted to take the optional Emergency Medical course, which his mother and sister were very proud of. He received high honors in every class he took, with the exception of those that would fall under the liberal arts category. He had always excelled with all things mechanical and technical, but when it came to artistic expression, he fell nearly to the back of the class. Áine, now 13, is showing great promise with her studies and has even been thinking of joining Star Fleet when she becomes of age. Conrad's mother informed him that this was not, as he had hoped, just to follow in big brother's footsteps, but rather her desire to help other people as she has shown great fondness of becoming a doctor.
