• Captain Christopher Pike is promoted to the rank of Fleet Captain.

• Captain Kirk assumes command of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701 for what would become a historic five-year mission of exploration.

• The Enterprise becomes one of the first Earth ships to reach the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy, where they encounter the galactic barrier, and the "black box" of the SS Valiant.

• The Borg invade and destroy the El-Aurian homeworld. The survivors flee towards Earth.

• The Klingons and the Federation sign a peace treaty, which they honor for the next three years.
