• October 4 - The satellite Sputnik becomes the first Human-made object to enter space.
  This event marks the beginning of the Human time in history known as the "Space Age".

• A Vulcan ship, which had been investigating the launch of Sputnik I, crash lands on Earth
  • This leads to unofficial first contact between Humans and Vulcans.
