Personal History

.

Early Life

Jenny was born a quiet child on Starbase Alpha to a woman who did not want her. She soon found herself sent to live with her father on the USS Philadelphia, and was raised by him and several of his friends until he transferred to the USS Enterprise. On the Enterprise, Jenny's father married her adoptive mother and for a while the three lived happily, and Jenny was soon joined by a little brother.

The family moved to the Ticonderoga, and for a time things were happy, until her parents seperated after an argument Jenny was too young to understand. Jenny went with her adoptive mother and brother first to Risa, then back to the family homeworld of Dhar'hyyk.

Kidnap and Cloning

After a few months on Dhar’hyyk, Jenny and her family were kidnapped by followers of her late-grandfather and forced into slavery, eventually ending up in a Dilithium Mine. While in captivity, the genetic code of young Jennifer was harvested and sent to Whodat, the rogue Ferengi Daimon whom her father had defeated repeatedly in the past. Whodat used the genetic makeup to a clone who he hoped would infiltrate the family and destroy it from within; the ultimate revenge. The true family escaped captivity before the clone was fully developed, so Whodat’s plan was changed – rather than an eight-year-old clone, he the project was expanded to create what was believed to be a plausible and well-developed backstory involving temporal displacement for an adult clone to be introduced. Eighteen failed, but the nineteenth proved successful; faster and stronger than an average human and psycho-indoctrinated with combat skills, languages and a false history. By combining the cloned and augmented genetic sequences with the Hermat gene that promotes accelerated growth, Jenny was fully to adulthood within a year, but a malfunction caused her to awaken before the indoctrination process was complete. Believing her backstory totally, Jenny escaped the facility she was created at and made her way into Federation Space, where she managed to make contact with the crew of her father’s ship, the USS Ticonderoga.

USS Ticonderoga

Jenny served on the Ticonderoga with the ship's Fighter Squadron, before moving on to become Wing Commander when her father's Light Carrier Group idea came to fruition. When the project was cancelled, she transferred with him to his new project; the 666th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing as a Squadron Leader. This assignment did not last long, however, as she wished to get out and see the Galaxy from a more peaceful perspective – a move her father initially disagreed with, but later relented on and assisted her in making a choice. Knowing most of the crew were also displaced, Jenny figured she should join like-minded individuals to explore this new existence with, choosing the USS Avenger as her next posting.

USS Avenger

Jenny’s first mission aboard the Avenger actually took place aboard the USS James Madison which was dispatched under command of Commander Crawford to the planet Halless 1; to recover a Probe that had mysteriously disappeared. Upon entering orbit around Halless, the James Madison lost all power and plummeted from space. Jenny managed to slow the descent somewhat, but the ship crashed and was all-but destroyed with several fatalities. Despite several ‘hiccoughs’ on the mission, including but not limited to Crawford being taken by a flying creature and a failed train hijacking, Jenny herself destroyed the rogue Probe with a pair of Grenades, and piloted the Avenger out of the system following the crew’s rescue.

The Avenger; damaged by Tholian weapons fire during Jenny’s adventures on Halless, made a layover in an Asteroid Field to conduct repairs. It was during this time that Jenny first met then-Midshipman Jake Schwartz whom she considered a brash, arrogant Engineer. The two did not get off to the best start, though Jenny was not to know that in the near future she would save his skin time after time.

The crew did not get much time to rest, as the Avenger soon found itself en-route to Tellar to join the fleet amassing to push the Krynar out of the system. During the battle, Jenny remained at the Helm of the Avenger – flying the Battlecruiser on manual the entire time. When the crew was affected by ‘Enlightenment Orbs’, Jenny felt she was the sole survivor aboard the ship and overrode the Tactical Controls – firing a full volley of twelve Quantum Torpedoes at a Krynar Dreadnought, which disappeared before the results of the volley could be seen. Though she relinquished Tactical Control back to the Avenger’s Chief Tactical Officer following the destruction of the Orbs, Jenny found herself wishing she could fly and fight by herself again – she was missing her Fighter Squadron.

Following the battle, her true position as a member of "Special Operations Command" revealed, Jenny wished to return to one of her father’s squadrons to fill the vacancies caused by casualties in the battle. To her surprise and anger, her father refused and revoked her operational status within Special Operations. The two had a falling out, and after some soul-searching and a conversation with now-Captain Crawford; Jenny decided to remain aboard the Avenger for the time-being.

The next mission saw the Avenger dispatched with a task force to the Krynar home system. Though the mission was a success, Jenny found herself physically and mentally drained from the combat experience and began to doubt her competency and ability to pilot the Avenger in such a way that wouldn’t see her make a mistake that got the rest of the crew killed. To make matters worse, the genocide of the Krynar had left a sour taste in her mouth – bringing uncomfortable memories from her past to the front of her mind. No longer able to stomach the senseless violence, or work with her Department Head; with whom she had been disagreeing more and more, she requested a transfer to the Test Pilot Corps; which was approved without the knowledge of Captain Crawford, who simply thought Jenny was running away, especially considering she had not informed any other members of the crew.

Jenny’s first assignment as a Test Pilot was testing the Avenger’s replacement support ship; an Escort with no name; just the designator ‘ESX-17184’. The ship was a wreck when she first saw it, but Crawford had assigned two other Avenger crewmates to the project to assist her – Jake and the new Tactical Officer, Acenvar Crystillin. It was during the refit process that Jenny confessed to the pair she had transferred away, eliciting an angry response from Jake. Jenny fled the confrontation before it truly began, but was followed by Jake and after a short discussion the two shared their first kiss. Though neither party truly understood what was going on between them, they agreed to discuss it following the test flight.

The test flight was a disaster. Jenny decided to overrule Jake’s suggestion of following the rulebook and stopping to thoroughly check the systems before engaging in a warp test, the result of which saw a near-insignificant flaw in a single circuit-board cause a deviation in the Escort’s flight plan – causing it to enter Klingon space. Though Jenny managed to pilot the Escort back out of Klingon space before it could be identified as a Federation vessel, the ship was severely damaged and Jenny wounded in the arm and chest before it was rescued by her father’s ship, the USS Anarchy. Though her father was not aboard, the senior officer aboard decided that the incident officially had not happened – the Escort’s computer core was completely wiped, and the ship repaired by Special Operations engineers before being delivered back to Starbase Delta.

Given time off to recuperate; Jenny developed an unlikely friendship with Zephyr Praise, whom she had nearly shot during her breakdown on the Avenger’s Bridge. The two went shopping in an attempt to bond, and Zephyr tried to get Jenny to open up and come out of the shell she had created – to be a young woman for once rather than just a Starfleet Officer. The attempt was successful to a point, until new orders came through from Starfleet Command – Jenny had been assigned as Acting Chief Tactical Officer on the Avenger. Though she desperately wanted to turn the position down, she eventually relented and accepted – realising that it was only one more mission, and would allow her to at least make up for attempting to run away without saying goodbye the first time she had attempted to transfer.

Jenny’s experiences as Acting Chief Tactical Officer aboard the Avenger were no less than disastrous. En-route to a mysterious distress call, Captain Crawford was badly wounded by an explosion in her Ready Room. Jenny was the first on the scene and managed to put out the resulting fire and waited for medical aid to arrive, and was instrumental in apprehending the culprit. When the Avenger arrived at the site of the distress call, Jenny led the away team to the planet Aoin and discovered that a mystery illness had claimed the lives of every inhabitant – an act later discovered to be an act of murder by an energy based life form known as ‘Wanderer’. Eventually ‘Wanderer’ was expelled from the Avenger, and the ship returned home without her Captain. It was during this time that Jenny began to wonder if she had made a mistake in requesting a transfer, and even started to second-guess herself about what she wanted from her career.

When the Avenger docked at Starbase Delta, Jenny had tried to visit Tyra in Sickbay, but was quite forcefully turned away by Admiral Grayson himself. With nothing to do to keep herself busy, Jenny decided to throw herself into completing some extra studies to accumulate Academy Credits in an attempt to justify her rank and position to herself. When Tyra was able to receive visitors, Jenny was the first to visit her injured Captain – the two talked about what had happened, which led to Jenny being assigned permanently as the Avenger’s Chief Tactical Officer but also being put through Command Training. During this time, Jenny also went on her first official ‘date’ with Jake, and their relationship went from being something the other crewmembers would speculate about to something quantifiable.

USS Gettysburg

Shortly after her meeting with Tyra, the Avenger was stolen by members of the Avenger’s original crew with the apparent intent to return to their own universe or die in the attempt. Jenny piloted the Voltaire in the retrieval effort, succeeding in disabling the Avenger and destroying a shuttle believed to be carrying the thieves without giving them a chance to surrender. It was as this occurred that the Voltaire was attacked by the USS Gettysburg and Jenny was critically injured. What had started as a simple retrieval mission had become the opening volleys in what could easily turn into a civil war, and Jenny was unaware of the fact as she recovered in the USS Anarchy’s Sickbay. Following her recovery, Jenny was re-assigned to the Gettysburg and the senior staff were sent on a training mission to the forest world of Ryla; what should have been a simple training scenario turned nasty thanks to the intervention of mercenaries believed to be in the employ of First Fleet who wanted to capture Jenny to use as a bargaining chip. Though most of the crew escaped, Jenny carries several emotional scars from the experience, as she had let her fury control her during her ‘interrogation’ of one of the mercenaries she had captured.

While the crew recuperated from the Ryla mission, Jenny discovered that Ethan Harkness had been promoted and that Zephyr had defected to Second Fleet. Feeling betrayed by her best friend and now outranked by a man who had been a Midshipman when she had already been a Marine Captain, Jenny seriously considered resigning her commission. Tyra intervened and suggested Jenny get a change of scenery so she could get some perspective on life, which is where Jenny ran into her ex-best friend on Star Base Bravo. Deeply upset by the developments in her life and feeling a total lack of self-worth, Jenny’s enmity towards Zephyr lessened over the course of a few hours to the point where Jenny misread Zephyr’s body language and the two shared an awkward kiss. Though there was no long-lasting awkwardness between the pair, Jenny still felt confused by what she had done. Returning to the Gettysburg in a state of confusion and worthlessness, Jenny considered refusing the award of the Distinguished Service Globe and resigning her commission, though she was unable to. Her feelings towards Jake had also become more conflicted, as he had lost control during an argument with yet another engineer, and Jenny realised that if she was going to be anchored to someone it would have to be someone with a little more emotional stability than the egotistical engineer.

The Gettysburg’s was later deployed to rescue miners aboard the Mining Station “No Man’s Land”, which proved to be nearly-disastrous for the crew and the miners when it was revealed that the initial ‘rockbird’ problem was simply a symptom of a greater plot to steal trade secrets from the facility by the Orion cartel. Following the mission, Jenny was kidnapped by followers of Daimon Whodat and returned to the facility where she was created, where she was informed that her accelerated aging and early escape came with consequences; the headaches, muscle pains and nausea she had been feeling were the effects of accelerated cellular aging, similar to Werner syndrome. Though the defects were corrected using DNA from a brain-dead but otherwise healthy clone and the extraction of the Hermat aging gene, the damage was done and Jenny was left with the knowledge that she had a built-in but yet-to-be determined expiration date. This prompted a change in attitude and life philosophy to Jenny, who now made it her goal to make the most productive and enjoyable use of the time she had remaining to her.

The Gettysburg was next dispatched to the planet of New Kanto, where the progenitor Jenny's birth mother was from, in order to negotiate the release of a Star Fleet crew being held on the world. When several members of the Gettysburg's Away Team were kidnapped, Jenny led a rescue mission to retrieve them: they succeeded and casualties were light, but Jenny cursed herself for allowing them to occur, and Captain Crawford was furious that Jenny had dropped the ball and not communicated her plans before embarking on the mission. With the mission over, Jenny took to spending her free time beating on the combat training equipment in the ship's gym or holodeck in order to work through her failures and the reasons for them. Jenny came to the conclusion that a mixture of her genetically-engineered ambition and desire to be worthy of her father's name had caused the incident, and began to investigate measures to free herself from her father's shadow so that she could live her life and forge her own destiny: to begin, she accepted a mission to travel to the fringes of Federation Space to assist in putting down a planetary rebellion, in which Star Fleet personnel had mutinied against the appointed Federation Governor.

First Officer and the USS Artemis

Following the debacle on New Kanto, Jenny prepared herself for her career to come screeching to a grinding halt. It was during this time that, after what seemed like an interminable amount of time, she finally began a relationship with Bryan. When she returned to the Gettysburg, she was surprised by the sudden and unexpected promotion to First Officer.

Her career as First Officer aboard the Gettysburg was short, as the vessel was retired from active service to become a museum ship. Now First Officer of the brand new Vesta-class Artemis, Jenny was present when the Borg Contingency revealed themselves from their Rogue Planet hideout. With the Borg having returned, Jenny planned possible ways to pre-emptively destroy them when located, something that became somewhat of an obsession. During the Attack on the Borg Megasphere, Jenny commanded the “Forlorn Hope”, a task force of small craft and Attack Fighters initially intended to destroy the construct from within, from the bridge of the Support Ship Voltaire. Later she piloted the Artemis during its delaying action to allow other ships to strike at the Megasphere’s interior. It was immediately prior to this that she and Bryan married in a rushed ceremony in the Artemis’ Shuttlebay.

Delta Quadrant

With Quantum Slipstream Drive now rolling out across the fleet, the Artemis was assigned to the Pathfinder Project and assigned to explore the Delta Quadrant. With newborn Carly in tow and Bryan assigned to the Luna, Jenny struggled to juggle her duties as First Officers with her new status as a newlywed with a newborn. The Delta Quadrant expedition saw contact with the Talaxian race re-established, and limited hostilities with the Kazon resurface.

Captain Braggins

When the Artemis was withdrawn from the Delta Quadrant, Jenny found herself reassigned to command the Nikola Tesla as a "punishment" for an altercation with a member of the Federation Council; these orders were quickly rescinded and instead she was to take command of the Philadelphia. With a crew smaller than the Tactical Department on the Gettysburg, Jenny found herself at the top of the ladder, with responsibilities she had once wanted and a crew that would need careful guidance and moulding to correct mistakes they had made in the past. Her first mission did not go to plan; entering the Shackleton Expanse with orders to make first contact with the J'Shashia people, Jenny's actions nearly provoked armed conflict with the Tholian Assembly and resulted in the birth of an infant Crystalline Entity; though the Tholians were grateful for her assistance in delivering a being they had deified, and the J'Shashia applied for Federation membership, Jenny was recalled and removed from command for her actions.

Too reckless to leave to her own devices but too skilled to be allowed to leave the service, Jenny was assigned to command the SS Yeager, a retired starship from Starfleet's "Frankenstein Fleet". After refurbishing the ship to bring it back to operational readiness, Jenny conducted fetch-and-carry missions along the former Romulan Neutral Zone; hauling cargo too important for a civilian but not important enough to warrant a starship or convoy. Expected to fail, Jenny instead flourished in the more relaxed setting, and even brought a handful of pirates to heel during the course of her duties. Following her assignment to the Yeager, Jenny was called upon to command the USS Aquila, NCC-76853 in order to proceed into the Gamma Quadrant and rescue some Ferengi merchants who had disappeared after traversing the Bajoran Wormhole without permission; the politically-charged mission, which Jenny was sure she was only assigned to protect the reputation of the Aquila's prior Commanding Officer, was a success and resulted in the discovery of a colony of survivors from the Tal'Shiar/Obsidian Order attack on the Founders' Homeworld thirty years previously. Returning to the Alpha Quadrant with the Ferengi in custody and the colony's existence noted and logged, Jenny was considered "rehabilitated" enough that she was reinstated as Captain of the Philadelphia.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Aviation - Helm/Fighter/Auxiliary Craft
Academy Minor(s): Xenolinguistics, Auxiliary Craft Maintenance, PhDs in Military Tactics and Strategy and History.
Hobbies and Pastimes: Playing the piano, electric guitar and sketching. Jenny has also recently taken up hoverbike racing.
Short-Term Goals: Turn the Philadelphia crew into a crew to be proud of.
Long-Term Goals: Settle down and come to terms with her life. Possible promotion beyond Captain, or retirement.
Personality: Jenny is generally quite quiet and reluctant to talk to new people but also extremely stubborn, sarcastic and not afraid to voice her opinion if she feels someone is wrong. This is mostly to do with her current situation, and the horrors she escaped from. When she comes out of her shell, Jenny can be the life and soul of the party.
Sense of Humor: Jenny tries to find the funny side in everything, with varying degrees of success. Recently, however, she has been unable to see the funny side of anything.
Phobias: Jenny is claustrophobic and afraid of the dark.
Likes: Flying, loud music and drawing. Since her recovery, Jenny has developed a near-craving for raw (or at least very rare) meat.
Dislikes: Romulans, Telepaths, Botanists, Superior Officers who micromanage, Junior Officers who have an inflated opinion of themselves.
Bad Habits or Vices: Jenny bites her nails, a habit she picked up from her father. She has also been known to smoke when stressed or upset.
Achievements: Graduating Star Fleet Academy through the distance-learning programme.
Disappointments: Not being who or what she thought she was.
Illnesses: Jenny is showing early signs of Werner Syndrome, a result of her accelerated aging. Cell necrosis is also a problem, though this is controlled by regular drug treatments and cellular regeneration therapies.
Strengths: Flying and tactics. Due to the genetic manipulation Jenny was subjected to, Jenny's dexterity, strength, speed and agility were augmented; this allows her to move faster and hit harder than normally would be considered possible. Furthermore, it improved her acute ear for sound and her ability to pick up languages and rhythms fairly easily. This has come in useful in both work and play situations.
Weaknesses: Despite being genetically enhanced, the improvements to Jenny's intelligence did not seem to extend to mathematics; Jenny can plot a multi-leg warp journey or work out weapon ranges and fuel consumption tables in her head; ask her a basic multiplication question, however, and she will struggle. Jenny's distinct lack of social skills or self-confidence are also major weaknesses given her current position within Star Fleet.
Fears: Dark and enclosed spaces. Her secret being exposed and the ramifications that would cause.
Prejudices: Romulans and Ferengi.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Leather jackets, jeans or leather pants and boots
Distinguishing Features: Large tattoo sequence running from left wrist up to left shoulder, down left side of abdomen and down left leg to the ankle covering myriad scars and other wounds. As a result of the Hermat DNA used in her creation and the repair of the cellular damage done, her canines are larger and sharper than normal, giving the impression of "fangs".
Pets: Raiju, a Rylan Thunderwolf
Friends: Tyra Crawford has become something of a surrogate big sister and is now her sister-in-law. Jenna Bartlett is Jenny's long-suffering SOCOM mentor and battle-buddy. Cera Morgan, "Juice" Claymore and Eliya McKenzie are Jenny's best friends and confidantes aboard the Artemis.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Finding out that her entire past had been a fabrication and that she was artificially-created for nefarious purposes.
Most Crucial Experience: The days following the revelation of her true heritage, when she determined that she should live for herself.
Role Model: Jenny doesn't really have a role model.
