Personal History

Jonathan Letterlock was born in Melbourne, Australia to fairly wealthy family, his mother was a professor in Astrophysics, and his Dad was the chief security officer on board the USS Centaur, however, because of his Dad’s job Jonathan and his family didn’t get to see their Dad very much, and because of this, he grew resentful of his Dad for making his Mum sad. However, Jonathan secretly wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps and become of security officer in Star Fleet like him.

However, this dream was easier said then done, Jonathan wasn’t built like his large, strong Dad. So slowly, Jonathan’s dreams started to perish. The final collapse was when Jonathan failed for the security cadet’s, a group of specially chosen students to do a special security program and his Dad accidentally let disappointment cover his face for a brief second. After all this time of telling his Dad he had failed tryout after tryout after tryout and his Dad always laughing at Jonathan’s crying eyes and saying “There will be more chances.” His Dad finally let slip his real emotion.

This was the last time he ever saw his Dad. A month later Romulans destroyed the USS Centaur, the look of disappointment has haunted Jonathan his whole life. He was 15 at the time. After his Dad’s death, in spite he kept away from his family and turned violent, keeping to him and losing the friends he had in that time. The most regrettable thing in that time was not being there for his younger sister, who was too young to be resentful of their Dad. He didn’t try to comfort her, and soon she was diagnosed with severe depression. He started to do the one thing he was good at, learn. At 17 he found he had a love of medicine and started to study up, deciding to continue his Star Fleet dream but as a medical officer.

At 18, on his graduation day he finally came out of his cocoon and apologized to his mum on his knees. His kind mother forgave him and was delighted to know of his ambitions for the future. He now is studying in medicine and astrophysics to help him to understand space better and it was his mother’s chosen field of expertise.

USS Sheridan DD-4086; Stardate 21411.05 to Present

After leaving the academy, Jonathan Letterlock joined the USS Sheridan directly in the middle of the mission and had little to no clue what was going on, however, he managed to do the role of identifying some unknown nanites.

However, all of this was drummed down by the gaping gunhole in the mission, the death of First Officer Alex Ankar in by a simple equipment failure the first few hours of Jonathan Letterlock's arrival, this mildly traumatised Jonathan as he had always had a massive fear of death.

In the wake of Alex's death, Jonathan created his first crew log:

I guess it's tradition for a midshipman to do a log about his first day, but it's not the reason I'm doing this log. Within the first six hours of being on board the Sheridan, the first officer has been killed, not by being shot, not by making a voluntary sacrifice. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm convinced that life in the stars is one for me, but if anything like this happens often, I'm not sure I'll be able to do this...

I've always been hugely fearful of death, I don't believe in an afterlife and the fact thats we're just...gone frightens the hell out of me. The death of Alex was so quick and so unexpected, he didn't even know he died, hell, he doesn't even know he was alive!

I guess then, theres only one thing we can do, there will be people after us, and we need to do things that will affect them, in a way, our lives aren't for us to enjoy, there for others, like Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela.

I guess thats why I want to be in Starfleet, just so I can make my mark.
