Personal History

Kinziri’s mother, Edrial, had a long career with the Trill Symbiosis Commission and also as an Ambassador to Trill for the United Federation of Planets. Unfortunately Edrial was killed during an attack on Trill society by the hostile alien parasites known as ‘The Takers of Gist’. Her Father, Tomral was himself Joined with the symbiont Los, and groomed his youngest daughter for joining from an early age. Kendri, the first born, always felt left out and pursued as dangerous a career as possible in order to gain favor. She joined Starfleet as soon as she was old enough and served aboard a Federation Starship initially in Security, then transferred to the Marine Corps. Tomral died before a reconciliation with Kendri. Kinziri was a good candidate for joining, and was pushed hard by Tomral. Kinziri was joined and became the sixth host to the Jal symbiont. Kinziri was always inquisitive and eager to learn about all life forms on Trill and beyond from a young age, whether animal, vegetable, mineral, or energy form, and upon joining with Jal, enrolled in Star Fleet to pursue a scientific career, eager to encounter as many new races and life forms as possible.

Symbiont History

The symbiont Jal has been joined with five other hosts;

Alixia, one of the first female Trill to explore outside their home system. Died on an uninhabited asteroid in an attack by a parasitic lifeform later identified as a member of 'The Takers of Gist'.

Strix, employed by the Trill Government and all official information classified. Kinziri learned through integration of suppressed memories that he worked for the Trill Private Intelligence Services and specialised in neutralising specific threats to the Trill populace from parasitic aliens similar to the vermiform Trill symbionts. These parasites, known only as ‘The Takers of Gist’ are bent on the annihilation of the Trill and all who stand with them.

Tirol, a Professional Gymnast who won acclaim on many worlds before retiring to coach others.

Rentara, a Star Fleet Diplomat specialising in Romulan Affairs and tactics during the period after the Dominion War until the last stages of the General War where he died while serving on attachment aboard the Klingon warbird Tok'argh.

Brinya, an Instructor for the Symbiosis Commission on Trill and at Starfleet Academy on Earth, teaching art and meditative techniques.

Career History

Upon Graduating from Star Fleet Academy Kinziri had not long been assigned to the USS Yoritomo, DD-4019 when the ship was lost in battle with the Borg. When it came to reassignment, Captain Lanael offered her the position of Chief Medical Officer on the USS Copernicus, GEC-9035. It was a challenge to take the step up to Department Head, but also to switch departments. Kinziri decided to leave the Science department and accept the transfer and promotion. The defining moments of her new career came when she performed emergency surgery on the First Officer of the USS Republic, CV-02 upon arrival at Starbase Bravo, having then recently conducted a pioneering operation to reverse a previously undiscovered and life threatening condition on Lt. Jg Imrix Trem, a fellow Joined Trill, and named the condition discovered as ‘Adaptive Aquatic Morphism’. In later years Kinziri would often say that her years as CMO were the happiest of her career. Promotion and reassignment called again on Stardate 20403.08 to the position of First Officer of the USS Drake, CL-2509 of the First Fleet. Upon the death of the Commanding Officer, Captain Lorien, Kinziri assumed command for the Fleet action against an incursion by beings apparently from the Andromeda Galaxy. She was subsequently promoted to the rank of Captain and Commanding Officer of that vessel. On Stardate 20602.20 she was reassigned to be Commanding Officer of the USS Dauntless, BC-1553 and also to the position of Group Commander for the 3rd Exploration Group. Proud to be among the fastest through the ranks in Star Fleet history, although with over two hundred years of memories and experiences she hardly felt ‘young’.

On Stardate 20710.23 Kinziri received emergency surgery following a confrontation with criminal scientist and pirate, Fabien Parete. After a series of encounters they confronted one another in a final showdown in hand to hand combat. The massive trauma she suffered from a piece of shrapnel plunged into her chest meant a drastic procedure had to be performed to save her life. A bio-synthetic heart was fitted and with the use of Borg nanite technology she recovered to full health. However the psychological trauma was harder to heal, and Kinziri was granted Extended Leave of Absense from duty on Medical grounds. Fabien Parete escaped capture but his vessel was pursued and later destroyed by the USS Drake. Whether Parete was on that vessel at the time was undetermined.

Returning to Trill she convalesced at her family home, accompanied by an Aenar she had met during a period of capture by Fabien Parete. The bond that grew between Kinziri and Jhesev led to romance and the two became engaged to be married.

After resigning her commission from Star Fleet, on Stardate 20804.09 Kinziri became married to Jhesev of the Aenar of Andor in a small ceremony on her family's homestead on the Trill homeworld. After a honeymoon spent on Earth, the couple intended to return to Trill to live at the homestead and cultivate and improve the farmland. She and husband Jhesev became legal adoptive parents of a seven year old human girl named Calico. The child's background and origin proved to be incredibly complicated and remained a mystery to some extent. She appeared to be the exact genetic match for the daughter of the same name of Rear Admiral Justina Parete and Fabien, however the Admiral insisted that her daughter died a number of years ago aged in her mid-twenties. To this extent the Admiral refused to have anything to do with the child, the pain of the death of her 'real' child too much to bear. Only her father might be able to fully explain her origin, but as he had proven himself to be something of a nemesis for Jal, and an extremely dangerous man, getting the truth out of him might prove impossible. Fabien Parete remained at large, whereabouts unknown.

However, for Kinziri duty called once more and somewhat reluctantly at first, she returned to duty and her previous rank and position of Group Commander. This time, on Stardate 20805.01, she was assigned as Commanding Officer of the USS Darwin, GEC-9000, newly launched and new flagship of the 3rd Exploration Group.

Sadly Fate took a turn once again and shortly after the Darwin launched and set out on a Shakedown Cruise, Kinziri fell seriously ill. She was rushed by shuttle back to the Trill homeworld where it was discovered that the Borg technology implanted with her bio-synthetic heart was trying to fight what it considered to be an infection. This infection turned out in fact to be pregnancy.

Kinziri was taken completely by surprise by this news, especially as it was not thought that a Trill and an Aenar could produce offspring. The complicated reproductive necessities of the Andorian subspecies normally called for compatible individuals of four genders to bond and produce children. The only thing that Kinziri and her husband could conclude was that the genetic experimentation performed on Jhesev during his captivity by Fabien Parete had altered his genetic make-up dramatically enough for him to be compatible with a single female.

After frantic research by her medical mentor Bireth Sazaan to reprogramme Kinziri's Borg nanites, her condition was stabilised and she was able to carry the pregnancy to term. She gave birth to a boy, who she and Jhesev named Jihan, a name that meant 'cosmos', or 'the universe' on Earth.

Jihan, being a hybrid between a Trill and an Aenar is an unusual looking individual. He was born with pale skin, white hair, and antennae like his father, but the pattern of spots and the eyesight of his mother. In his infancy it was too early to tell whether he inherited any of the Aenar telepathic abilities.

Taking a continuation of the emergency medical leave into a maternity leave, Kinziri then put in her resignation to Starfleet upon the birth of her son. She moved with her husband, newborn son and adopted daughter Calico to the farmstead that her family owned on the Trill homeworld. Family life suited her well, and she found a use for her medical skills performing as doctor for the local community.

On Stardate 21104.11 Kinziri travelled to Earth to attend a conference at Starfleet Medical headquarters. While there she was told of the shortage of medical personnel in Starfleet, and urged to return to at least temporary duty while a new generation of personnel could be trained up. After much discussion with Jhesev and much thought, she decided to offer her services to Starfleet once again. She joined the crew of the USS Columbia for the duration of one mission, serving as Chief Medical Officer while simultaneously assisting Starfleet Medical with a prototype of a new, more personable, version of the Emergency Medical Hologram program. At the end of the mission she returned to her family on Trill and worked part time as local doctor once again.

A year later she was visited by an old friend of her mother. Still a member of the Trill governing Council, he asked Kinziri to follow in her mothers footsteps and become a representative of their people as Ambassador to the United Federation of Planets. The Symbiont Jal had been an Ambassador with previous host Rentara, and the Trill government felt that this experience would serve them well if put into use in the current political climate.

Assured that the diplomatic service would not interfere with her family commitments, Kinziri took some time to consider the proposal before accepting. Her assignments brief, returning to Trill in between, Kinziri began to get a feel for her new role.

As of Stardate 21305.31 Ambassador Jal contacted HQ of the UFP Diplomatic Corps, reporting the completion of her latest assignment to a colony near the Neutral Zone, and reported she had commenced her return to Earth for debriefing…

Starfleet wanted Jal back in the service, and she suspected also wanted to keep her and the knowledge she held of 'the experiment' where they could keep a close eye on her. So she was given a role at Starbase Alpha, and the rank of Commodore once again, then promotion to Rear Admiral and the position of Fleet Commander, managing the First Fleet and defence of Sector 001.

Finding a silver lining in having a desk job, Kinziri found a home for her family on Earth. Kyoto, Japan, to be precise. Jhesev and Jihan could live in the house and Kinziri could visit regularly with ease. She enjoyed this balance between duty to Starfleet while also seeing her son growing up, and spending time with her dutiful husband. As a bonus, their adopted daughter was on Earth a lot for her studies and training at Starfleet Academy and could spend time with the family too.

Kinziri's life entered a period of peace for a while.

Pioneer Outpost.

With the long period of war finally over, Starfleet began to rebuild and to think about the future, and a little of their past as well. Before all of the conflict, they had been explorers. A new expedition was proposed out far away from Sector 001, out near the Dozaria System.

When Jal heard of this expedition she used every bit of leaverage she could muster to get a place in that Group.

Appointed to the position of Expedition Field Commander, Kinziri said a tearful farewell to Jhesev and Jihan, who would remain on Earth. Her adopted daughter, Calico, had graduated from Starfleet Command and gained her first assignment. Not on the Expedition, but on a Starfleet ship at least.

Travelling to Pioneer, Rear Admiral Jal would manage organisation of the ships exlporing the region, while Rear Admiral Nick Ristone would manage the Outpost and its personnel.

USS Sheridan, DD-4086.

From Stardate 21807.01, Jal took command of the USS Sheridan on a simple supply run to pick up equipment and other supplies needed by Pioneer Outpost. With the Sheridan's regular commanding officer on medical leave, Kinziri decided to take the post herself. It would get her out of the office, and it had been far too long since she had sat in the central chair. She figured that if Starfleet Command was going to make her a Rear Admiral, she could use that authority as she saw fit. She privately hoped that it wouldn't be just a simple supply run.

There was a distraction along the way thankfully, a strange amount of warp traffic in a pre-warp system. Jal ordered the Sheridan go investigate. Pushing her authority further, she surprised the regular First Officer, Commander Boislevesque, by choosing to take the Away Team to the surface of the planet herself. Waiving the tired old Starfleet regs about a CO not leaving the ship, she left the Sheridan in Boislevesque's capable hands and took a team down to the surface of the desert planet. Their investigation uncovered a group of Brikar who had been using technology to impersonate the native people's deity,'Phezus. Again using her authority as Rear Admiral etcetera etcetera she had her team apprehend the Brikar on the surface and Boislevesque threaten likewise to the Brikar ship that had been discovered in orbit. That all settled, and without bloodshed, Kinziri felt pleased to have had this chance to 'blow away the cobwebs' and do something positive in the field.

Unfortunately that was short lived, and once the Sheridan had the supplies back at Pioneer, Jal was back at her desk in the outpost Admiralty office. The admin of the Expeditionary Group had piled up in her absence, and of course there were several Commanding Officers that needed debriefing.

Feildwork was nice while it lasted.
