Personal History

Michael was born, and spend most of his youth on Denobula. Both parents worked as Physical Therapists. At around the age of 8 Michael experienced a tragic vehicle related accident while on a school trip. The vehicle crushed his childhood best friend, and Michael survived with only a torn rotator cuff. Michael spent two years in both psychological and physical therapy from the accident, though medically cleared of injury; there are occasional moments to where his shoulder aches as if it is a reminder of his past. While Michael and his family were still in grieving, a close family friend made a professional offer, for the three of them to start a new clinic on Earth. The move was difficult, mainly because Michael socially was more comfortable with adults than with kids of his age.

At the age of 16, Michael got his first job as a Physical Therapist Aide. It was there that he began his love for medicine. He took every chance available observe and learn from physicians. Though he worked with many different doctors, he enjoyed to work with the hand, knee, and shoulder specialists; he even was able to assist in simple surgical procedures. It was through the inspiration of his mentors, that he took an early fascination to orthopedic medicine. The only other passion in high school was the school's jazz band. Michael played the Alto sax and at the time was considering to become a music major, but that lasted for a short while.

When he reached the age of 18, Michael was considering to apply for PT school, to follow a career similar to his parents. Both of Michael’s parent’s objected to this academic ambition. They suggested to Michael, that he should be pushed to his medical limit rather than compromising academically to something that he would be familiar with. It was that year that he applied for Starfleet.
